Studio Laundry

Next year for our trip we are debating staying at the new Poly Studios. I have just enough points for an 11 night stay. We have been staying at Boardwalk and we love staying there. One thing I am concerned about is the ability to do laundry without waiting. I know about the app, but it seems like the Poly has a low washer/dryer ratio for studios compared to other DVC resorts. Another factor for us is that we are flying finally and so we are bringing less luggage.

So in a nutshell I want to stay in a resort where I can get the laundry done at normal hours of the day. I would prefer Poly, Boardwalk or maybe even Beachclub but I am booking at 7 months out for the 2nd week of June. Does anyone have any experience with the Poly on this?

I stayed there in May. It was empty when I went to use the laundry room. Some other people came to check it out while I was there but there were plenty of empty machines. My issue with the new system is you can not choose the water temp and there is nothing there to tell you which settings correspond to the different cycle options. Once I closed the door the machine started and you couldn't change the cycle.

There have been reports of the machines at PVB being hard to get. I expect as the resort sells it will get even more difficult.

While you have to pay, the resort laundry is very close to the DVC buildings - just behind Tangaroa Terrace - and is much larger so is another option.

Only 4 washing machines and I beleive 8 dryers (stacked). Last week I was there 1 family had all 4 washing machines tied up. They really need front loading washing machines so they can stack them and double the number of machines.

All of the washing machines in the PVB laundry room are already front loading machines.

By the way, the laundryview.com site displays two weeks' worth of usage data for each laundry room. Click on the "View weekly stats" link and you'll see a chart showing low, medium, and high usage by day of the week and hour.

My mistake, but they need to be stackable and double the quantity (which was what I was trying to say). Thanks!

Usually the studio laundry rooms have twice as many driers as washers. If they put in eight washers, they will need 16 driers.

Only 4 washing machines and I beleive 8 dryers (stacked). Last week I was there 1 family had all 4 washing machines tied up. They really need front loading washing machines so they can stack them and double the number of machines.

Don't you just hate that? We were at the bcv in May and there is only 2 washers and 4 dryers. We were lucky enough to be across from the laundry room so moved quickly when there was an empty washer. One trip it took my husband several days to catch an empty washer.

And I've never completely understood it. If you go to a commercial laundry mat it isn't that way. Nor have I found that at the few other hotels I've done laundry at. Just make it even IMO.....and maybe get larger capacity sized dryers if the drying is a concern.

I think they know the dryers suck and take twice as long to dry as to wash a load. And then you have the guests using the dryers to dry their wet clothes from rainstorms.

But it is possible to have dryers that work just fine. Of course when dryers don't work well it's often due to dryer vents that are getting clogged. Having more dryers to compensate for that probably isn't the best solution.
