DH and I are seriously considering joining DVC. We are expecting twins in June and want to plan ahead so we can afford to take them to WDW during their toddler/childhood years.
Ideally we can afford 100 points which can get us a week at a studio anytime, but will a studio fit us? Is it about the same size as a regular hotel room?
We are trying to decide if we should wait til we can afford more points. Thanks!

Studios will easily accomodate 2 adults and 2 small children. The studios seem larger than a normal hotel room because in most cases the second bed is a pullout sofa. So during non-sleeping times there's much more space in which to spread out. You also have the option of adding on more points in the future when the children get older or if you decide you want to stay in larger rooms.

Good luck!

If you are buying directly through Disney, you must purchase 160 points for an initial purchase. If you purchase a resale, you'll have to be on the look out for a contract of 100 points for sale.

If you stay at OKW, you'll get two queen beds and one pack and play. In the others you'll get one queen and one double sleeper sofa and one pack and play. Putting two pack and plays might be tough, but if you didn't unfold the sleeper sofa, you could arrange them.

You won't have a washer and dryer in your villa in a studio, but you'll have one to use at the complex. In the one bedroom you'll have one right in your villa. That could be a deal breaker with two little ones.

Why not see if you can get a 100 point resale at SSR (for the later expiration year), and as your family grows (in age and possibly number) or as your situation changes, you can do an additional add on later down the road?

If its anything like I've heard, addonitis will hit quickly and you'll be getting more points in mere minutes anyway.

Seriously, with timeshares (and any luxury purchase) its about not over extending. A studio with 2 infants/toddlers is fine as you can't leave them unattended anyway. Once they're older, maybe you add on points to get the 1 or 2 bedroom.

There are plenty of times during the year when you can get a 1 bedroom at OKW for 100 points. I have one this June 3-8 for 100 points.

you can definitely do a studio for 4 --- we did hotel rooms until my oldest was 6/ youngest was 3. But, you would love the one bedroom with the dishwasher for all the sippy cups and the washer and dryer for the laundry. With little kids--- those things are priceless. Plus sleepless nights with little ones, it's nice to have a little extra room at night. If you can only do enough for a studio, you'll love it. But we usually have a one bedroom with 150--- you just pick your time to go carefully, and we usually stay at a value the first night we arrive, and stay in DVC Sunday night to Saturday morning (but we're driving so that makes it easier). The weird thing is we still end up sleeping in the same room (the king bed is huge, and we've done an airmattress next to it for my 6.5yo), but just having that extra room. We can put the kids to bed, and hang out in the living room. It's great. But, yes a studio will definitely work for 4. No need to wait though, you can just add on when you don't feel comfortable in the studio anymore or addonitis hits.

We have two little ones (2&4) and just recently bought at SSR. We are so happy we did!!! We have stayed in both a studio and a 1 bdr. For us the studio is for long weekends and the 1 bdr is for the week trips.

There is enough room in a studio for a family of 4 but we loved having the room to spread out for the week long trip. Plus we loved having the in room washer & dryer and dishwasher.

A studio should be fine for you for at least the first four years, or so, of your twins joining you. We are a family of four (me, dh, ds (6), ds (2)) and while this will be our first DVC trip we have stayed in the moderates and deluxe resorts with plenty of room. We will be staying in a studio for our first weekend trip (in 34 days :yay: ) and in a one bedroom for our week long trip.

We bought into DVC because we can foresee us continueing to vacation at WDW and eventually we will need two rooms and I don't want to even imagine that resort bill. Having the sink (other than using the bathroom ones to clean sippy cups), fridge and toaster wil also be really nice.

And like a pp said addonitis is pretty bad and can happen pretty quick. We just finally bought in, haven't even made our first trip and are already thinking about how many points we want to add on and where. :scared1:

We also are a family of 4, but my boys are 16 and 14 and we spent a week in a studio at SSR and did absolutely fine. We took a twin air mattress for 1 kid, they took turns sleeping on the sofa and air mattress.

Organization is key and keeping things picked up.

We learned though in a 26 foot travel trailer at FW, so the studio is spacious compared to that.

TammyA,

I'm also thinking about joining. I can't find 1 bedroom for 1 week at OKW for 100 points.

Once you join, are there "specials" on points?

Thanks!

We have almost 18 year old twins/boy/girl. We purchased when they were 10 and have used studio's with the four of us, no problem, they are roomy, nice size closet, and vanity outside of bathroom, with alittle kitchenette (mircowave, mini fridge, coffee maker, little sink). We bought the amount of points we could afford when we first bought in, added on later. We purchased enough for 6 nights during the February school break (here in NY) in a one bedroom, but have used the studio's too. Good luck with your decision and CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR TWINS - it's AWESOME.

The PP who posted the 100 points has a 5 night reservation which is 100 points. If you add on the weekends it becomes much more.

We are a family of four that stays happily in studios. We tried a 2-bedroom once and I felt the room was wasted since we were rarely in the unit and don't need/use a kitchen. Since the sleeping arrangements are not vastly different with a 1-bedroom (still 1 bed and 1 fold-out), I just can't bring myself to use the extra points.
