After many months of saving up money, DD was finally able to purchase a Vera Bradley tote bag. She is using it instead of a back pack to carry all her books. It is perfect, as she is tiny and the backpacks were really hard to hold everything and for her to carry.
Today the teacher announces that girls are not allowed to use tote bags. There is no official school rule against them. The teacher said they are "book bags" and are to be left out in the hall cupboards. The hall cupboards are really large metal units with shelves, open to anyone to pick through, toss things asside, rusted, etc.
She is so disappointed.
Any suggestions as to how to handle the situation? Talking to teacher? etc.
Thanks in advance.

We always carried our backpacks/totes in school. Grant it - 20 years ago but what if you don't have time to stop by your locker to change books so you have 1-3 period books with you. Are you supposed to carry the books, pencils, notebooks, paper in your hand?
