schools do have a right do to do these things. Myspace and facebook are NOT private. Anyone can see them. I know it seems like they are invading privacy but if you want it private, don't put it on the internet. Also, schools can enforce policies if the students signed a contract for activities. In high school I would have lost my captain status on a sports team, I would have been suspended from the team and had detention for the school if caught using ANY substance that was illegal for me to have (yes that includes tobacco on school grounds if you were under 18).
My college police has been alerted to events on facebook that are obvious for underage drinking and will notify the event creators that if underage drinking will occur then the police will be checking in to enforce policy.
In the end, if you drink, don't be surprised if those pictures could hurt you in the future. I had friends lose internships because of their pictures on facebook making them look unresponsible to potential employers.
