Student of the month in elementary school... need feedback

My mischievous son gets them all the time. Every time he brings home another certificate I know they're using him as an example to encourage good behavior and start to wonder whether it's him or his buddies that need the encouragement.
That's exactly my thought! Very well could be it's the kids with less than star behavior getting these. Gives them a boost to keep it up, and their friends see it as well. Unfortunately, the consistent, dependable ones are often overlooked for things. Been there!

Our school does this too, however they pick the bullies and trouble makers. It has become a joke to everyone.

I'd be mad at my mother if I got SOTM and then found out later that I got it because she called. It would take the "sheen" off the award, if you KWIM.
Not only that, by the very slight chance that somehow word got around that I was chosen because my mom called.

In middle school, IMO, it is better to be flying under the radar than to have notoriety for something like that.

Just let it go. I know it is hard.

My son's school has a "courtesy court." Each month, the teachers pick students in their class who have been courteous to other students and the teachers. At the end of the year, if there has been one or two students who have been outstanding throughout the year, they get the big, year-end courtesy award and a special pin that they get to wear on their uniform throughout their time at the school.

Now accordinding to my son's teachers, he is such a respectful boy, friendly to ALL students, yada, yada, yada. He has never gotten nominated ONCE for the courtesy award. I can also tell you that my goddaughter has been nominated many times and she can be the nastiest thing on wheels--yet she is very smart and is a "teacher's pet" type. So go figure. I let it get to me for a few minutes every now and again, then just let it go.

My son got this award at his school. He didn't tell me about it, I saw it on the notice board in the hall. When I asked him about it he said it was no big deal, everyone got it eventually. ;) So, don't let it hurt your feelings, it's not really much of an honor. Now, the fact that my ds has never been picked to draw the sword from the stone in over 15 Disney trips keeps me up nights and is giving me an ulcer! ;) :rotfl: (I wish I was kidding about this  )
