Stuck with a 2br!

I made the mistake assuming that ms would let me drop the studio side of my 2br at bw. They said that they would have to cancel the reservation and put me on the waitlist for a 1 br and give my 2br to someone else on the waitlist. He then hinted that I could just keep the 2 br for the first night or so, then drop the studio so that I would be guaranteed a room. Do you think that that would be unfair to the members waiting for a 2br, or since I made the ressie at 11 months out I am entiltled to do as I wish? Thanks

I'm sorry to hear this has happened to you unexpectedly but I also have to say I'm glad to hear this is the policy (maybe a new policy?)

This is not a reflection on you (since you seem to understand) but the posts I read about this did seem unfair and a bad habit to get into that a majority of people reserving a 2 bedroom were just using it to take their time deciding whether a 1-bedroom, studio or 2-bedroom would be their final choice.

As to what you should do? If the cancellation idea was given to you and it works for you, I don't see why you shouldn't go ahead and use it. That way you are covered for this trip and now know the policy for the future.

hi: we currently have a 1br from 11/6-11/12 and are on the waitlist for a 2br. if this coincides with your dates, maybe things could work out for both of us. since i couldn't plan this trip at our 11 month mark, we have a preferred view.

I'm not sure if dropping the studio after arrival would work as far as refunding the difference in points. Isn't a reservation considered used after you check-in? If anything, those extra points would have to go into a holding account.

Good thinking Debbie! Yes, they'd be a "cancellation" under 30 days and would go into a holding account. You've also got to keep your banking deadlines in mind.

I would think that the best way to do this would be to go on the waitlist for a 1 bedroom and then if you get the 1 bedroom you would be convert your reservation from the 2 bedroom.

If you vould get them to guarantee you a lock-out unit for the Studio you could rent it out for the point value of a Studio.

Sorry, wdwnut, the room is for September. I
agree with you PamOKW that this is a good
thing. MS told me that they have updated
their systems and now once a room is
cancelled that it picks up the 1st person on
the waitlist. This makes them unable to
change a reservation by just dropping part
of the room. The only problem that I can see
now is instead of someone booking a 2br when
they will proabably need a 1 br, is if they
have enough points they could book a 2 bd
and a 1 br just in case their guests cancel.
This would tie up an additional room. In my
case all is well that ends well. I was able
to get a preferred view 1 br for Monday on.
But the Sunday before Memorial Day nothing
was available at the BW. My husband didn't
want to do OKW this time, so we booked one
night in the towers at the Contemp. I can't
wait! He has never stayed there and I
haven't been for years. Also, I told him
that we are not inviting the inlaws any
more. If they can't guarantee that they will
be coming then they won't be staying with us
unless we can get them a room at the last
minute. Mean, I know! But I look forward to
our vacations and would be devestated it we
were not able to get a room because they
cancelled out!:pinkbounc
