Stuck at WDW during tornado....?

If you had to be at WDW during a tornado, where would you prefer to be?

  • La Cava in Mexico. It is a cave, after all.... with tequila.

  • Pirates of the Caribbean, after the drop. It's underground, right? ;-)

  • Tower of Terror: A truly terrifying experience, with a view.

  • On Soarin' - Make it a really authentic experience.

  • Inside the Contemporary. Nothing's moving that building!

  • Since there aren't any basements, inside the Utilidors.

Another thread got me thinking: If there was a tornado barreling down on WDW, where would you want to be?
I have some ideas that I'll put in a poll...feel free to add any others...

If I was at MK or EPCOT, I'd want to be in the utilidors. Otherwise I'd probably just want to hide in a bathroom with no windows in some central location.

I would never want to be stuck on a ride. That would scare the crap out of me.

For me it would certainly be the utilidors. At the time when a tornado is coming at me I wouldn't care about being sheltered somewhere cool but rather in the safest place possible which would be underground. If not there than certainly a well structured bathroom without windows.

Under Space Mountain - anywhere on the lower level where you disembark would suffice.

We were there in July and there was an extreme weather warning with Tornado risk, we were at WWofSp on the soccer fields. We had to all go in the buildings but away from windows and they would not allow anyone to leave until it cleared.

Agreed, except I'd prefer a really safe spot with no windows, but PLUS booze. After a few tequila shots, "what tornado?"

So...is "tornado season" in the summer? Because I will definitely be avoiding that.....lol :goodvibes

I'd want to be in that balloon thing at Downtown Disney. 'Cause then I'm pretty sure I'd end up in Oz :P

the utilidors are basements.

That's where I'm heading.

Disney actually does have safe havens within the parks in the event of an emergency.

There was a tornado warning when we were wandering around the WS once. We were in Canada. Every phone in the area made that annoying high pitched squeal. Its sounded like an air raid siren as the sounds combined and bounced off the lake! I guess Disney didn't get the memo though since they didn't do anything. :rotfl:

As a PP mentioned, and from what I've heard before, because of the water table in Florida it is difficult to build a basement. So Magic Kingdom is actually 2-3 stories above ground and the utilidors are the first story.

Not sure about Epcot, though, as the utilidors seem to run underground. But there are just a few tunnels around innoventions.

AK and HS do not have Utilidors.

They are basements as far as tornadoes go! they are below ground level
They brought in dirt and raised the ground level for Disney
so no they didn't dig below the natural ground level they raised it and then put them in. It is like being in a cave inside a mountain during a tornado. If it moves the mountain it doesn't matter where you were you aren't going to make it!

Good point! :thumbsup2

I'm still headed to a place that is relatively secure and serves drinks. :drinking1

When growing up, my folks always headed outside when the sirens went off. I would follow them b/c tornados never touched down in my small little hometown. Always "jumped" over us b/c we were lower than neighboring towns. Last year an EF4 tornado touched down 4 miles from my home. After seeing that destruction in real life, I'll happily go down to the utilidors. I think it'd be pretty neat to see them anyway.
