Okay, I need some major pixiedust: If any of you fellow Disney  fans have any to spare, can you throw it my way?

I want to take our two oldest grandchildren (7 and 3) to WDW in December. DH and I were married at WDW, it is our anniversary 12/14, and our DGS's birthday 12/15.

Problem: In theory, DH is all for it, with the caveat of "No discount, no Disney!" ACK! He has even gone so far as to threaten me with OFF PROPERTY OUT OF POCKET DINING for future Disney trips, and much less often! Like once every five years! Oh, the horror! :darth: <---And I really thought I knew him. Who knew off property, no DDP, infrequent trips lurked beneath his seemingly kind exterior?

We have always paid full price for the packages, and he is tired of it. I think he feels taken for granted by Disney! :mic: LOL. Usually I can finesse him. ::lovestruc Not this time, methinks. And my fingers and toes are starting to hurt from keeping them crossed.

I've done my research, and the only discounts we would be eligible for are minimal. We "NEED" free dining!

Seriously. I NEED it.

We all NEED it. pixiedust: Who is with me on this? Gas prices, grocery prices, medical costs...c'mon. We all need a little magic.

If Disney will do free dining for December, do you think I could still get reservations in July or whenever they announce it to the GP?

LYA&GB!

You should be able to get FD, the PIN codes sent out covered just about 'til January and historically they match the PIN dates with GP discounts.:yay:

Have you called to see if you have a pin attached to your account? That is step one. If that doesn't work, subscribe to the oct-dec free dining extension thread to wait with the rest of us unlucky pinless people for it to come out to the general public.

Sorry, but I am with your DH on this one, we have never paid Disney's ridiculous rack rates, except once for FD. For us we rather have a good room only discount over FD, it just works out better for us. On the bright side you probably have a decent chance of FD coming out for the first couple of weeks of December. Good Luck.

Wishing you luck, but as the PP noted, we feel the same as your DH. We will NOT pay rack rate for Disney. Just doesn't make sense, especially since we have flexibility to change our dates to when Disney is offering discounts.

We also prefer a Room discount to FD, free dining saves more on paper, but since we don't actually eat all that food, or even WANT to eat all that food, we are better off getting a room discount and paying OOP for meals with a Tables in Wonderland card.

Hopefully, you will get your discount/free dining though !!! pixiedust:

We've found we do better with a room only discount and food oop rather than a dining plan.

Why have you always paid full price??? I have been going to WDW for 6 years, and have always gone with a discount. I agree with your dh. I would never pay rack rate.

Its a good question, I know that some people are basically forced into Rack Rates because of work schedules, school, etc.

But I do often wonder why anyone goes at peak season. Market forces would suggest that it SHOULD balance out, but it really does not appear to.

I am just hoping out new found time slot, first two weeks of May, remains unpopular and not busy :)

Thanks for your replies and suggestions. I should amend my reply to say that we have at least planned our trips during the value season.

I was interested in the comments that a good room discount and paying OOP for food is a better deal. Since we don't eat that much (although enjoy the experience of the venues) but will be traveling with two young children, not always wanting to sit still for a long meal--maybe a good room discount would trump the dining plan on this trip.

 Thanks! I will look into that.

I would go room only discount. Unless it is a character meal, our DDs and myself do not like to spend 1.5-2 hours on a TS meal, plus they just do not eat enough. I would highly recommend a disney TA like dreams unlimited etc., because they will always look for discounts for you, and if one comes up for the same time as your reservation they will automatically get you that discount. Just a suggestion:)

Typically GA offers follow whatever PIN offers had. Current PIN ates for FD are as follow

10/1810/31/13, 11/1111/23/13,
