Strong Canadian Dollar cuts holiday costs

The Canadian dollar is now significantly stronger than it was one year ago. A DL trip for a Canadian family is now hundreds of dollars less. I would think many Canadian families will take advantage of the stronger Canadian dollar and travel south to DL, especially at Christmas and during Spring Break. One year ago, it cost me $1.20 Canadian to buy $1 US. Now I only pay $0.97 Canadian for a US buck.

Any Canadians making the trip in the near future because of the strong CND dollar?

Well, we had already booked our trip from Toronto (Dec 8-16, we went to WDW last year and thought we'd try DL this time!) some time ago. We are certainly VERY happy that we just paid a deposit and hadn't paid it off because we weren't sure if we'd make changes. It will really pay off when we pay the remainder in the next few days - - the exchange rate is so great!

I estimate the savings to be $500-600 dollars compared to the same trip one year ago. Who wouldn't jump at that?

Yes, I have to say it was a factor in us taking our trip earlier than planned (by 2 years). We had some $ saved up but not enought to cover the whole trip. We decided that with the Canadian $ so strong that we could take our girls to DL now and save up for DW in a few years when they are older as DW at their age they would be overwhelmed. We leave for Dl on November 28th for 6 days :cool1:

You bet your hot diggity dog we are. We are in DL from the 14th to the 19th. While we are there we are buying DVC. We are then in WDW from April 8-12. If we take the new incentives we will then go back to DL for summer holidays to use up our developer points!

It has definitely been a factor in our decision!!! We have always wanted to surprise the kids with a birthday trip and this seemed like the perfect time with all the savings. We are also adding extras like the holiday tour because it seems so much more affordable than before when we were get 70 cents to the dollar.

Here in the UK we have a great exchange rate at the moment. The 1st time I visited America 6 years ago I got $1.47 to the £. I have already exchanged some money for my next trip and I got $2.10 to the £!! Although the cost of flights does seem to be going up ($400 per person more now and that was a good deal!)

Yes the same here in Australia the AUD was AUD 93 cents today to the USD, money experts say by Christmas it may go 1 for 1 and should stay at AUD 85 to 90 cents well into 2008, which is great and better than in 2002 when the AUD was 54 cents.

I actually saved 3 bucks when I booked my tour last week. She told me my total was 198 even and I checked my credit card and after the exchange rate my total was 195!! WOOHOO! I can actually save money now, I'll be buying books when I'm there.

We already had our trip booked, (a bus trip out of Saskatchewan) for new years so it was in Canadian currency anyways, but looking forward to saving money on exchange for spending. We've never been there before and are quite excited about it!

Must say we are quite pleased, the cost of our hotel keeps going down, park tickets purchased at par, savings on gas, food etc, we will probably save $300 to 400 Canadian.

Thinking we might see $1.10 US to $1.00 Can before we go.
