I was hoping someone could recommend a good stroller to take to WDW. With the increase in stroller prices, I thought it would be easier to just bring one. I need one for my son who is 4 and weighs 40lbs. I have one of the cheap umbrella strollers but the handles are so low and is hard to push for long periods of time. Any recommendations or should I just fork out the money to rent the Disney strollers?

We purchased the MacClaren Quest for our April trip. DD was about the same age and weight as your son.

Stroller goes up to 55lbs. I think we purchased it for a little under $200. Basically came to the same price as renting for 11 days and now we own it for next trip and next child.

MacClaren also had the Triumph which was a little cheaper but that one did not recline.

While DD does not use it often in WDW it came in handy at night when she was tired.

I ordered this one the other day from Mousesurplus.com (someone from here recommended it, but I can't remember who) and should be arriving at my door sometime this week:

Supposedly, this is the one Disney used before they went with the ones they have now. I needed something sporty like a jogger, but didn't want to spend jogger prices. Being able to quickly fold and have a high weight capacity mattered to me over looks even though DS3 is only 30 or so pounds. I couldn't find out how much the unit itself weighs (matters when using Disney transportation) and the straight bar across the back means it's going to be that wide when it folds (as opposed to the cane handles that indicates the stroller folds up as well as in), but I'll review it once I get it in.

My dd is now 6 and we have had every stroller on our numerous trips to WDW....Maclaren Volo, Peg Perego, cheap umbrella, and finally found the Baby Jogger!! We have the Baby Jogger City Classic & it is by far the best stroller I have ever had. Comfortable to push (adjustable height of handle for me & dh who are over a foot apart in height), comfortable fully reclining and sun shaded seat, swivel or fixed front wheel and the best folding ever (pull the seat strap...that's it!!!). It can hold up to 75lbs so you can use it pretty much until your child is in junior high school LOL.
We still use it in WDW and my daughter is comfortable in it at 51" and 52lbs and it is the easiest turning stroller ever.

We finally had to give up our great "baby" stroller for our 4 year old. After doing a lot of research, I went with the Joovy Groove which is a lot like the Maclaren. I found the best price on ebay (they have new ones). It took a little getting used to, since we had been using a large Graco stroller and this is more umbrella style. But it's very sturdy, has lots of storage, and my son is able to sleep in it (he's 45 lbs, 46 inches tall). We've used it on 2 trips to the parks and we're very happy with it!

These are the ones they use at Disneyland Resort in California. They are Baby Jogger strollers that are built more for commercial use (meaning they are sturdier, and more durable than personal strollers). We rented one for ds(not quite 6 at the time) while at DL last April. DS is in the 95th percentile for height: 4' tall and a little over 40# and to give you an idea of how he fit, the top of his head was just a bit too tall to fit under the canopy w/out touching it, and his feet could touch the front wheel cross bar. But he wasn't uncomfortable in it, and we had no problems pushing the stroller with him in it either. Given he's six and taller than avg, I would say an avg size 4yr old will fit in one just fine.

hth!

We are going to try Orlando Stroller rental. They have the baby jogger and it looks so much more comfy than the WDW strollers not to mention you can take it back to the resort with you. We are going to go this route rather than bring our sit and stand joovy in case the kids fall asleep(DS 5 DS 3) We are pased the point of buying a new one or I would def buy the one they have advertised it looks great!!! Good luck:thumbsup2

I finally got it in, but couldn't give it a good pre-trip review. We're keeping it for use around the house, but I had to go with something else for the trip. Full review in my trip report.:)
