Strollers on the bus

Very rude. We never used the buses. When my kids were young and needed strollers we always rented a car. We still do. Can't stand the buses. Another vent of mine is the monorail and strollers. Since when has it become ok to wheel those huge strollers on the monorail, park them smack in the middle and let the kids out and let them sit in the seats?? Why can't they stay in the strollers?? So now, not only are the seats taken up, but the handrails are also not usable because the strollers are in the way. Again, when my kids were using strollers we always had to fold them on the monorail and I would put it with ME, so it bothered ME or my husband, not everyone else on the monorail. Oh and another thing. We put our kids on our laps so other people could sit down. When did being rude become so popular?? I don't get it.

OK vent over.

Enjoy The Magic!!

can I join your rant?
I agree. the last time a Mom wanted us to move so she could push her monstrosity on without folding it up, the kids were already out and taking up seats. But she wanted us to not get on standing so she could just push it on and not fold it up. we said tough we aren't waiting for another monorail fold it or you wait.

The loose projectile factor doesn't appear to be a concern on public transportation in general or Disney buses in particular. If it were, you're right - the appropriate thing to do would be to disallow strollers altogether (and require bags be properly stowed, and install seat belts).

I think the same goes for blocking the aisle. I've seldom been on a Disney bus where the aisles weren't blocked by people, strollers, and packages. That's just the norm and I don't buy that every bus leaving after Wishes every night is in violation of federal regulations.

Although it may not appear to be a concern, it is a law and if some bad thing happens due to the fact that this rule was not followed, the driver and the company would be in deep stuff. People do not block the aisle, the stand in it and are mobile. This also applies if they are holding an object such as a stroller. The assumption is that whatever object they are holding will go with them. An object just laying there can cause much harm and is also a law breaking infraction.

Okay, you got me there, I have never been on the monorail with a stroller when it has been busy, always had our own car...I'd imagine I'd fold it, I can't see my DD2 not wanting to sit on the seats like her big sister.

Tied into my social phobias is the extreme fear of inconveniencing anyone else. I hate to put anyone else out or bother anyone...but it seems that people will be bothered no matter what we do. I swear, it never occured to me to keep my stroller unfolded on the monorail (though in most cases) and my DS will stay in that stroller and I take it as far out of the way as possible. Sometimes I don't have enough hands to hold him, collapse the stroller, and hang onto all the bags. I know that's not what a PP was complaining about but I'm just scared it'll tick off someone. :( With my son who has some special needs, I have had to leave my oldest DS and DH at the parks and go back to the resort and I don't know how solo parents do it. I've already had to come to grips I have to bring our jogger stroller for my son who is developmentally delayed and it's the only option we have. I'm sure I'll get cheesed looks for that too.:guilty: I'm glad I have 3 appts w/ a therapist before our trip to figure out some mental gameplans on dealilng w/ stuff. :sad1: I try my best but it's going to anger someone. Makes me sad already. :guilty:

My 3 year old thinks it's MUCH more fun to have his own seat and will be incredibly squirmy on my lap, making my ride uncomfortable and unenjoyable. I paid nearly $300 for his ticket into the parks. Please explain how it's rude to allow a PAYING customer to sit on a seat on the monorail. Now, would i put him on my lap if someone truly needed to sit down? Of course.

BTW. I always fold the stroller :)

Please don't feel guilty. I hate being a bother to anyone, but I'd personally never think bad under your circumstances. There are people out there that will be pissed off no matter what, but there are a lot of people who think the whole world revolves around them too, and there is no pleasing them. Ignore them. You are there for a good time, enjoy yourself too.

I don't like to bother anyone, and I hate the thought that anyone would be mad at me, but there was one instance up here on the public transit, where I was kicked off a bus IN A SNOWSTORM because the stroller took up "too much space". (you don't need to fold up strollers in Mississauga buses). I couldn't use the handicap area because teenagers needed to sit two stops before the they got to school, heaven forbid. That really annoyed me. I walked, was late for work etc, what could I do? Since them I've had to wait for a "next bus" since they never kick anyone else off for strollers. Oh well. sorry for going off topic there.

:hug::hug: And  to you being kicked off in a snowstorm! Believe me, I live in MN, I know those storms.
What I'm most worried about is my DS's disabilities are not obvious to look at him. And as we know, most people only give a curory glance and make their judgement. I have been on the DISabilities board reading though. It's been VERY helpful. I'm going to try to aquire a GAC card. At elast atht will help there BUT I'm prepared (or trying to be) for those looks when we wlak by people w/ the stroller to a differnt waiting area. :guilty: His therapists highly recommended it so I feel better asking.
Sorry for the sidetrack. :flower3: It's not why this trhead was started. With my own expierences tho w/ my youngest, I've come to look at others differently (with more acceptance and patience) and have learned well not to judge a book by its cover.

Moving on..... :rolleyes1;)

I have to agree with you on this one.

BTW. I have never folded my stroller on the monorail, have always been told that we don't need to.

well it is the considerate thing to do at closing and opening if it is standing room on all the cars. with the stroller folded a lot more people can get on and especially if the child is sitting in a seat they really don't need the stroller open and many more people can fit on. Non busy times yes leave it open but please fold it when it is packed especially if the child is out of it or it is huge.

Maybe it was tired from strolling around all day LOL OK I could resist.

I would say that is not the norm. I would have asked them to remove it so someone can sit. Some people really don't think before they do and some actually don't realize how dumb their move is until someone points it out to them.

When the bus has been pretty much empty. I have seen people use the seats for their strollers, packages and laying down too but that is after everyone else has taken a seat.

:rotfl2:, I find that to be very rude. Big/bulky or not, you should hold onto your stroller like everyone else:rolleyes:

I'll bet the farm that there was way more to that story then we have been given. Besides the fact that it was the size of the stroller that was the cause not because you had a stroller and others were allowed to have one. There would have been some difference and I'm guessing that size was it.

I don't know what Canadian Laws are so I won't address that issue, it just seems funny that a nation that gives so much lip service to how kind and gentle they are would so blatantly ignore the safety of others.

Believe me, when it gets busy, the monorails fill up. And we've spent a ton of time, trying to find a car with enough room to even stand up in. Why? Because of the huge strollers in the cars, with no children in them and the kids sitting on seats. And due to the size and number of strollers (left unfolded), there is no way to hold on to anything in the car.
Yes, strollers can be left unfolded in the monorails, but common courtesy would have you believe that you don't get to fill up one side of the car with an empty stroller while your kids sit on the seat.

It's the law.
All WDW buses have a sign located on the exterior near the front door regarding strollers.

Ah...we changed the subject to the monorails!! Silly you....how did you miss the change in subject!!??

Two things:

1. Rent a car. So much easier than dealing with a bus. We did the bus thing last year and just returned from an 8 day stay with a rental car. The rental was a lifesaver.

2. If you read my trip report it seems like people are overly “aware” of what others are doing. I will repeat a phrase I tell my kids all the time: You worry about you. Is it rude for a stroller to be on some seats, probably. Is it the end of the world – no.

I don't think it is rude to let your child have a seat. But I do think it is nice to hold them on your lap if you can, and let another person have a seat.:flower3:
