Are there any that you can acutally take on the plane? If so what are they? We have a Chicco London. Thought maybe that was small enough. Also we are in the front seats. if we can bring one on can we have it sitting in front of us w. Max sitting in it. I know that is really a long shot. Thought I'd ask though. TIA!

Well, the answer to your question is yes, and no. Yes, you can gate check the stroller - so you can use it right up to the entrance of the airplane (I recommend folding & securing it yourself). They will stow it in the luggage compartment for you and then bring it back out to the jetway at your destination. They will not allow it in the passenger compartment with you though. That wouldn't be safe for your dc or anyone on board as it would be totally unsecured. There may be an exception to that - certain travel umbrella strollers may be allowed in the passenger area, but folded and stowed as a carry-on item only. Those are the ones that take up very little space when folded though - less than your Chicco would.

Did you buy a seat for Max? If not, he will have to sit on your laps. If you're in bulkhead seats (I assume this is what you mean by "front seats") then the armrests typically don't move, so just be aware of that. If Max will have his car seat there is a chance it will be too wide for those seats.

Also, here is a really great site about traveling with children you might find very helpful: http://flyingwithchildren.blogspot.com/

No, gate checked items (aka stroller, car seat) are NOT counted against your carry-on items or baggage count.

How do you know that you are in the front/bulkhead seats? In my experience those are not given out until you check in at the gate. Although I have heard they will give preference to those with small children/babies

It used to be that some airlines allowed really small-folding models, like Combis, to be stored in overhead bins. They changed that years ago because they found that if the wheels were not properly locked, the stroller would roll back and forth inside the bin. It made a horrible racket, and they tended to end up pressing against the bin door, falling out when it was opened.

We bought them from Orbitz and were able to pick our seats when we purchased them. I LOVE that feature!

Gate checking our stroller was the best thing!

We were able to wheel our child right to the enterance of the plane..... and when we left the plane it was there waiting for us. Having the stroller in the airport was ideal.
I would just let them know at the ticket counter that you want to Gate Check the stroller, and they will give you a ticket for it.

Strollers are definitely no longer allowed on board. However, gate checking is a breeze. Just remember to ask for a tag when you get to your gate and you'll be all set. We've never had any problem and have flown about 20 times with our child (who is now 3).
