Stroller through security??

Does a future-gate-checked stroller get rolled through the metal detector, or is it folded up and put through the xray machine? I have a lightweight stroller...bigger than an umbrella, much smaller than a jogger...and I'm looking at it, trying to figure out how it will get through the xray machine, but realized people take WAY bigger things to the gate...

Thanks for your help; I'm trying to decide if the familiarity and no-cost aspect of taking the stroller combined with the hassle of getting it through the airport will be worth not paying for a rental at Disneyland.

Ideally if you can fold it and put it through the belt you should, its much easier than having it hand wanded. If you cant' put it through they hand wand it and it can take extra time depending on the agent. Either way the child and all the bags/items in the stroller will need to be removed.

we take a double stroller(side by side) and it fits through the machine.

Thanks!

Now I'm back to "6 of one, half dozen of the other". :rotfl: :confused3 :upsidedow

:cool1: Sorry - I didn't mean to be so wishy washy but it really does depend on the stroller and how it folds!

I was behind a family with a small double jogger in PA heading through security. Unfortunately they didn't bother to remove anything and had to stop and pull out toys, lovies, sippies etc and pack them before trying to fold the stroller. Top that with the fact that Mom, who apparently always folds the stroller was through security with the two kids :) Dad had no idea how to fold the stroller and even when he got it folded it didn't fit. He had to open it backup and have it hand inxpected. Luckily the TSA agent was pretty calm about it and I was able to switch lines and head through the other side.

I would be prepared to have it hand wanded and then you will have a pleasant surprise if it fits -

Wow! I have some weird mental image of the machines, and it seems that it is very wrong. Odd, I mean, I DO travel, this isn't my first time to the airport, but I have a picture in my head of a very small opening for the xray.

DH, who will not be traveling with us (he will travel alone both ways) wants me to just leave the stroller b/c we got it for our LAST Disney trip and "got our money's worth". So I should leave it home, then rent a stroller if needed at DL, and rent a jogger from a baby gear rental company for my week in San Diego. So...over $100 in rentals, when we HAVE one sitting at home! :confused3

I just went through the "take it or don't take it" exercise for our trip coming up in two weeks. We bought our double jogging stroller for our X-mas 2005 trip when our girls were 3 and 5. We SO got our money's worth out of it. This trip our girls will be 5 and 7 and for a while I was thinking that they should be able to walk. But then I realized I was being delusional. They would be claiming they were exhausted and couldn't go any further just getting from the parking lot to the park entrance! Bottom line, we're taking it. It's a lifesaver in airports and necessary for a peaceful and fun trip for my husband and I.

We gate checked it last time and imagine we'll do that again this time. It did have to be wand checked, but again, it's worth the effort.
