Stroller Rental and Food Allergies

I am struggling with what to do here. 3 kids (7, 5 and almost 3 at travel time). 5 y/o has issues with lots of activity (bad growing pains/cramps nightly with moderate activity) and little will most definitely need one. I was hoping to get a stroller as wheelchair tag for oldest to help keep him contained in lines because of his FA's. We have a sit/stand stroller we were going to bring.

I am trying to decide if we buy another sit/stand for the trip and sell later OR rent a second when we get down there. The price would be about the same pretty much. I just see fights over FA kiddo not being allowed in the rental because of contact issues with whatever previous kids were eating in them. I wouldn't feel safe letting him in it. Flying with 2 seems like a major pain as well but perhaps may be the better option?

Just seeing if anyone has thoughts on this :)

from a stroller your oldest will still be able to reach out and touch if s/he wants to touch, the chains will be close enough. even with the stroller/ wheelchair tag a sit stand might not fit in the line as it is too long to make the turns. I would check with Disney about that. I know it can be hard to make some of turns with ECV.

I believe to be used as "stroller-as-wheelchair" the stroller needs to fit within the dimensions of a wheelchair: 30 inches wide by 48 inches long. I don't know if a sit-and-stand is longer, regular front/back double strollers are definitely too long. As PP mentioned, it will be very difficult or impossible to maneuver through the switchback of the line queues with a too long stroller.

But what I'm finding confusing is why you feel you need 2 sit-and-stand strollers for 3 kids? I would bring or rent an extra single; maybe bring a simple umbrella stroller as the extra. The kids can alternate who rides in which. Though depending on the size of your 7-yr-old, he may not "fit" in a standard stroller, in which case you may need to look into renting a special needs stroller unless he is relegated to the standing part of your stroller -- which again may not fit the measurements to go through the queues.

I'm assuming the 7-yr-old (the one with FA) has severe contact allergies? While a stroller may help that issue for very young children, it may not help much at his age. As PP mentions, his arms are long enough to reach out and touch chains, walls, etc. He really will need to learn not to touch anything. Presumably he's already aware of that safety measure if he goes to school, grocery store, and other common public places. If he's good about not touching, the stroller may actually make him feel confined and babyish like a punishment -- which I know you don't intend.

If you have time, I'd put a lot of effort into teaching the oldest child not to touch anything in public - and practice at various public places near home, stores, parks, zoo or museum, etc. At his age, I think that's your safest measure. The stroller may work some, but I wouldn't rely on it completely.

Enjoy your vacation!

The older one will be LESS likely to be all over the ropes in the stroller. We are planning on the "hands off" stuff but he's 7 and a boy and well.... He's generally good about it but again, I am trying to minimize issues as much as I can. The sit/stand looks to fit within the dimensions you mention above. Thanks for that info as I hadn't though about it.

The reason for two, three kids plus stuff. We have to travel with an ample supply of food and drinks and meds. I figured 2 doubles would allow us some extra room for stuff we need to have with us.

Be aware that you will most likely only be allowed to take 1 stroller in line. So the 2nd will be parked; I wouldn't leave anything of value or importance in the stroller while parked. The 2nd stroller will help get that stuff around, but you might not want to leave it unattended and would therefore need backpacks or other bag(s) to carry it through lines.

Enjoy your vacation!

Yes! Thanks for the reminder as well. One in line was what I was thinking as well. Meds always travel on/with DS but I figured we could (perhaps) leave the soft sided cooler bag with the one at the gate? Or is that too risky? That would have drinks/food and the diaper bag stuff for the youngest.

plan on a rain cover for both strollers esp for the one you leave in stroller corral as they are outside and will get rained on.

strollers are not kept "by the gate'. They are over in a stroller corral. For instance, the same corral can be used for Peter Pan, IASW, Carousel. It is not nearby.
