while we go to Disney every couple of years, it has been ten years since we needed a stroller. I know you can rent them in the parks, but are they still the hard plastic ones or are they real strollers now?

Still hard plastic as Tara1988 said. If you need it for little ones (or big little ones) I would check out an off-site place. Better strollers and typically less expensive. I have rented from Orlando Strollers and had good service.

The Disney strollers, to me, seem more practical for older kids who may not need to nap in one but just need a break from walking, like preschool age. Any younger than that, you'd be better off renting from an offsite rental agency. We used Orlando Stroller Rentals on our last trip and are using them again in February. We liked that they offer parent consoles on their City Minis as that was one thing we don't like about that particular stroller. The one we got last trip was so nice and clean, it almost looked brand new!

We bought a Graco Light rider at Walmart for $50. It's full sized, cheaper than renting for 2 weeks, had a full recline, and folded easily.

Still hard plastic. If you want a real stroller, we have had great experiences renting city minis from both Kingdom Strollers and Apple strollers.

We bought a cheap, lightweight stroller too. Cheaper than renting, especially since we know we will be doing more than one Disney trip with a stroller, and it's been great to have at home too, for trips to the zoo, etc.

We've used magic strollers once and have used kingdom strollers since....they've worked out to be cheaper. Both great companies and good comfy strollers. :)

Look around on craigslist, garage sales, second hand stores. It's a lot cheaper to purchase a decent stroller second hand then buying a cheap one that is hard to push.

We used Orlando and the stroller looked much more comfortable than the park ones.
