Hi, I'm taking my large for her age (49" & 60lbs) 5 yr old to WDW June 10th - 16th. Any suggestions for strollers? We're staying at CBR. Trying to decide if renting at WDW is only options since most strollers only hold 55lbs. Would renting a double at WDW be better than a single? Thanks for the help :hippie:

we didn't even take a stroller for our five year old and he did fine. Went during a very busy time really covered a lot of ground and stayed opening until close.
I also wouldn't want to push 60 lbs of kid all day, talk about exhausted. so my suggestion would be don't worry about one.

I would rent if and when you need it. The WDW strollers are nice size and much easier to push. Many 5 year olds will need the rest a stroller will offer them. Do what is best for your family.

I agree, do what's best for your family. We just came back and my DD6 (turned 6 in March) rode in a single Disney stroller. It was much easier to push than a regular stroller! She won't need a double, just have her sit in one at the rental place and you'll see.

Have a great trip! :thumbsup2

I would also rent her one at the parks if needed. We went in Jan. with our 5 yo and she walked the vast majority of time. Now we brought our double stroller b/c her younger brother did need it but on her seat we really used it for storage as she walked. :) However it was nice to have it for when we needed to move at a more rapid pace - we would then ask her to sit and she obliged. Have fun! :)

Most strollers aren't rated to hold a 60 lb child. I would definitely rent a single if she needs it. Depending on the heat and how long you spend in the parks, you may or may not. My oldest is not a walker so we will be renting a double for her (she's 6) and her brother (who is turning 4 on Friday). We rented a double for them last summer and they push so incredibly easy. You won't have any problems with your daughter fitting in or with you pushing her. We could push the double with one finger and that was with around 75 lbs of kid in it last year.

Thanks for the input, I'll just play it by ear and rent if she needs one. We got our trip paperwork yeterday..very excited her first trip and my 20th (1st as a parent). Looking forward to the beginning of many fun filled Disney vacations to come :wizard:

I would rent a double stroller for your child if you think he needs one. They are great - the extra space for backpacks, cameras, shopping bags & drinks is awesome! :thumbsup2

Have a great trip! :sunny:

We just got back from WDW and have a large 5 yr. old (46 1/2 inches and 75 lbs.) and rented the single stroller in every park. She didn't complain about being uncomfortable and pushing the stroller WASN'T hard at all. She would never have walked through all the parks. To much.

I have 2 boys (now 7 and 4) and have been on numerous trips with them to the World. My general thoughts on strollers are that

a) they are for babies and toddlers - not for pre-school aged kids who can walk;
b) cumbersome to deal with in the parks - going light is the best option;
c) they should not be used to push the limits of what your child can do in any given day at the parks.

When we take our boys, we can sense when they're getting tired/cranky. At that point, it's time for a break. Either a slow ride, sitting down for a meal, or heading back to the hotel for some relaxation and some time in the pool.

There's nothing worse than pushing the limits of what your kid can handle. Just my opinion.

I rented one for my dd 6. (she was 5 when we were there and about 60lbs.) Her legs hung off a bit but was it. It was not to heavy and I hung backpack on it.
