I'm taking our first Disney trip on November with my son for his 5th bday. I want a stroller to use....I found a good deal on renting the Citi Mini, but the max weight is 50lbs and my son is almost that...a couple lbs shy and by then he may be there...anyone ever dealt with this issue? Any suggestions?? TIA

I haven't found as good of a deal for the size up, I was wondering if anyone has tried the city mini with a child who is almost the max weight.

Citi mini is a durable stroller and I'm sure it won't collapse at 55lb ;). I'd go for it! I've only rented the double but that thing was LOADED with all our crap no prob!

Thanks SO much....that's encouraging for sure!

Do you have a Baby's R Us nearby, do they carry it? You could swing by to see how he fits. I rented a larger one for dgs, it was larger to fold and lug, but more comfortable for dgs.

We are renting City Elite (75 Lb capacity). It didn't seem significantly more than the mini, is going to be easier to push, and more comfy for the child.

It isn't so much that the stroller will break over the weight cap (though it could), but the weight distribution will be off, make it harder to push, and you will get tired faster.

I took my personal citi mini when my son was just about 50 lbs (somewhere between 48-52 depending on the scale).

It didn't collapse, like another said, but it was MUCH harder to push than when he was littler. The easy one handed steering didn't work so well anymore. And as it's just my son and I, I was the only pusher and I did get tired much faster (like another pp said). If you can swing it, I'd go with the Elite.

My son was also fairly cramped in it (and the canopy hit him on the head when putting it up and down so I couldn't rest anything there. It worked for him because he has some sensory issues and being cramped actually calmed him, but it might not be for everybody.

It's still a great stroller though. Just sold it last week and shed a little tear that my stroller days are gone!

If you have somewhere nearby to try them that would be great. I have a city mini that has been on 2 of our trips. The other two trips I rented one. I agree it won’t collapse. My son is just now 41 pounds; but, my daughter has sat in it several times despite my protesting and telling her I was going to take a photo and send it to her friends.

I do know from experience it will be harder to push. My daughter spent some time in it when she was 7 on our first trip after recovering from some stomach issues. I let her ride in it until she felt enough energy to walk. She was 55 lbs at that time.

Also figure height to be a consideration. I bought our City Mini for our 2nd trip after falling in love with my rental on our first trip. I went with a city mini instead of some other kind of stroller because my son had way more head room in it. I bought it when he was 2. He’s 4.5 now and prone to sensory overload so we still use it at various places. I love how the shade comes down and makes the stroller like a retreat of sorts.

The GT I believe is the next size up from the City Mini and has a 65lb weight limit so if budget allows I would likely go with that instead.

We rented the GT double stroller because I was concerned about my older son being too tall. It was a great stroller. We rented through Apple stroller rentals, but that was over a year ago. No clue what the rates/deals available now are. My best suggestion is what pp said, if there is something like a babies r us near you, they have the strollers out and put together for you to try out before you buy. I took my little one with me one day and sat him in the regular city mini to try and help myself decide which one to rent.
