My daughter will be almost 7 when we go in Sept. Do you think she will need a stroller? Should I buy an inexpensive one or rent? I can just see us being half-way around the World Showcase and her pooping out. But I don't really want to have to mess with a stroller either. What do you all do?

At 7, I'd just rent one at the parks if you need it. Chances are (depending on how many hours in a row you plan to spend at the parks), that won't be too often.

Last year, when my kids were 6 and 4 they each had a stroller that we brought from home and it was great. This year at 7 and 5 they were just too big (at least my older one was) so we decided to just wait and see if we needed to rent one. But I didn't dare tell the kids!!! My older one was fine. My hubby did have to put my daughter on his shoulders a few times, but it was better than having to deal with the two kids fighting over a stroller. I would just wait and see and if you need to rent one go for it!!!!!

I'm going through the whole stroller debate as well. I am thinking I will definately need one for my large 5 year old and would like to bring something from home. What type did you have that fit a 6 year old?

We just had our first non-stroller trip to WDW a few weeks ago and it was great. My youngest is 6 and a real baby (also small, about 40 pounds.) Anyway, DH did not want to get a stroller, we ususally rent, and he was so right. She did great with only a little complaining. We find that they walking is mixed with a lot of sitting in shows and stuff. It was great not having to park and unload the stroller, then find it after the show/ride. Also, the day we went to MK it was total gridlock with strollers and wheelchairs. It was so much easier to navigate through the crowds without the stroller. We just carried one backpack and took turns carrying it so we did not miss the storage. I say try to do without, but rent if you really have to. My kids complain less at Disney anyway, they are just so happy to be there. Most people will disagree with me, but I feel you should try to do without.

I would definitely use a stroller. Anything that makes a hot July vacation easier I'm all for. We have 2 dds (turning 7 &5) and ds(turning 4). We're bring an umbrella stroller and a double umbrella stroller (one that holds 100lb. totally combined weight). It paid for us to buy it instead of renting because we have 11 days this trip and 13 days next year's trip so renting would have been more expensive. It doesn't matter whether you rent one or bring one just get one!

We choose to do a stroller too. At 7 and not a great walking kid, it sure was easier than needing to go on my husband's shoulders!:D

disneymomx7---what type of stroller was the double you have that holds 100 lbs. and how much was it--that sound like a good one for my kids--thanks--

7 years old and planning on a stroller? I pity the poor parent that has to push that one around! The kid might not get tired out, but won't the parents? Or are the parents in really great shape, but the kid isn't because he/she's in the stroller, LOL!

my just 6 year old took her first non-stroller trip last year - we did have a stroller with us for our baby but the 6 year old walked.

There were a very few times when the 6 year old needed the stroller, late at night after MVMCP being the main one. On that occasion, we put the baby in a sling and let the 6 year old ride, but generally she managed just fine without one.

I agree with laceemouse!!

We love being stroller free for all the reasons that she mentioned. We left the strollers at home by mistake when they were 5 and we haven't missed them. Our kids had no trouble making it around WS by doing the mask stations at each country. One year we used pressed penny machines to get them to each country.

I just ordered it from babyage.com. It's a Schwinn double umbrella stroller that said it holds 100 lbs. combined weight. My girls are small, 36 snf 39 lbs) so I'm guessing it should hold us for a few years. As long as they're willing to sit in a stroller I'm willing to bring it. It makes my life a lot easier. The stroller hasn't come yet, but when it does I'll post how it works. By the way I just searched for umbrella strollers double.

disneymomx7---thanks for the website---that stroller looks nice and it has a basket for storage---my kids do not use the stroller much anymore but that is alot of walking for a little kid and I would hate to hear them complaining all the time.

My two older kids never use a stroller at home but Disney is different. It's just easier for us to move at a faster pace if they're in strollers, plus we can keep our stuff in the baskets. Believe me the kids are very athletic and not out of shape at all. I wish I had their energy. But when you go to WDW in July or August and heat can take the energy out of the best of us after awhile. I don't understand why it offends some people if other people let their bigger kids sit in strollers. I don't care whether other people kids walk or ride in strollers, it's just my personal choice.

Our stroller died at WDW this past April. It was the final trip for our almost 7 year old to ride. Yes, I missed the storage later in the trip - carrying all those water bottles in a backpack gets heavy!

Twice after the stroller went to stroller heaven did our dd request to be carried. DH is 6'2" and her sisters are both just under 5', so her little legs get quite tired trying to keep up. Heck, half the time I'm walking 3 paces behind DH!

So, I say go for the stroller. IMHO anything that makes the trip more pleasant is well worth the price!

This past January I took my two children ages 4 and 6 and rented a double. I was concerned about the weight issue (my kids are about 50lbs each) but Dis strollers are very strong. I was also concerned about pushing them and me pooping out but because the strollers maneouver easy I had no problem. I'd say go for it, the pouches in the back make great bottle and map holders. If the kids want to walk, let them, at least you still have a place to put your stuff! I can't believe people would be offended by me pushing my kids in a stroller no matter what their age and if they are they should be more concerned with having a good time at DW :teeth:

Is that double stroller a front, back - or side by side? If we go in the fall with my granddaughter (who will have just turned 6) we'll definitely want a stroller.. Not only for her comfort, but for all the junk we lug around too as there will be no "men" on this trip to use as pack mules..............LOL:rotfl:

Oh - and does it have a sun shade on top?

Thanks!

It's a side by side (so are the rental strollers at Disney so that's not a problem), and yes there is a shade canopy on top and the seats also recline if you need them. It looks like the perfect stroller for Disney. There's also a basket underneath to stow stuff (you know how you accumulate stuff at Disney).

Just to let you know.....
I have been looking for a double stroller also.
I have seen the Schwinn SC700 at several different websites and they have different weight limits for it.
I emailed Instep to ask them and this is their reply:

The actual weight limit of this stroller is 75 pounds. Some internet retailers think that since the weight limit for the single model is 40lb, that the limit for the double is twice that. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused.
So, I don't think that the weight limit is 100 lbs like babyage.com is saying.
Which is a total bummer because that would have been perfect for us!
UGH!
Hope this helps someone.
