stroller for each child?

I thought I read somewhere a tip to bring a stroller for each child, that way, even if a child doesn't use it, you can still use the stroller for holding your lunch pack, waters, and anything needed in the park without always carrying it.

Our girls will be almost 3 and almost 6 when we go to DL. We may possibly walk instead of take a shuttle to and from hotel to DL (little over a mile).

Should we bring a little umbrella stroller for each, per the above idea, or would that just be more of a hassle?
(I'm also thinking of hauling around the airport, along with carseats, and in and out of the car on other parts of our trip.)

I would not bring a stroller for a school age child. Now someone will tell you how their 9 year old needed one and they can't imagine being so cruel as to make a child walk that much. ;)

It's a personal decision. I will say we have successfully spent several days at Disneyland with a child that age and no stroller. The park has lockers and I am not a pack mule. We travel light. :) I cannot imagine saddling myself with an extra stroller if I didn't absolutely have to.

I wouldn't bring two unless you think you will need two. I also wouldn't recommend umbrella strollers, since most of them don't have cup holders, or an undercarriage basket and the handles tend to be too low for most adults to push comfortably (plus most have a low weight limit for many 6-yr-olds).

I've done the two strollers-flying-across-country thing before. We normally check our car seats, but I know some are uncomfortable with that. If you aren't checking the car seats, you will feel like you have a ridiculous amount of gear that you are carrying through the airport.

Another idea might be a sit-and-stand if you have one (and if you think both your kids will need a stroller at the same time).

I love my sit and stand, it works great for the younger one and then when the older one gets tired he can sit or just stand on the back.

However if you take frequent breaks and make sure your 6yr old is conditioned for the walking you can do it without one.

I HATED pushing my sit n' stand around anywhere.

We just got back from DL last week and we took our Chicco Tuscany umbrella type stroller not for the girls but to carry the stuff. I was so glad I had it for the jackets, snacks, water bottles, autograph books, many colors of Sharpies, hats and whatever else it needed to carry. My 6 & 8 yr old daughters walked - complained on the way back to the hotel. I do not like carrying a backpack and am glad I didn't have to. If you think you might need the stroller to carry stuff, by all means take it!

I used the stroller to carry stuff through the airport too. We checked the car seats at the curb with the rest of our baggage.

I am a large supporter of at least one umbrella stroller..:sunny:.that way your little one will always have a seat. :thumbsup2

We shipped an umbrella stroller to our hotel so that we didn't have to lug one along the way there and back and it only cost us $15. We just budgeted for that.

We walked A LOT :faint:and when she fell asleep she could rest in the stroller and we would just tip it back onto two wheels:moped: and had a little blanket with us and she would rest. As for the umbrella stroller being hard to push for adults, well our arms got tired and there were 3 adults! To make it more comfortable for us all we definitely used the stroller. There is stroller parking and we just parked and walked and returned when we needed it!:cloud9:

I wouldn't bring a second stroller for the 6 year old. Also, I would bring a small stroller for the 3 year old, but not an umbrella stroller. Bring one with plenty of storage underneath and the cup holder. :) JMO

Having lived through my set of twins and now my daughter's set of twins, plus two other grandkids, I have come to the conclusion that umbrella strollers are cruel and unusual punishment. The child cannot sit properly and certainly cannot rest comfortably.
If I were in your situation, I would take a regular-style stroller for the little one and let the older one walk.
I know that several posters here have mentioned using a stroller just to store their stuff but somehow that seems impolite to me. There are soooo many strollers in DL; we don't need them being used because we don't want to carry our stuff. JMHO

For anyone who is interested, that's why I bought the umbrella stroller I did at One Step Ahead. It is taller than the normal one so my 6' DH has zero issue pushing it or kicking the wheels. It also has a soft gear holder between the handles that you can use for some drinks and a small basket. Sunshade is for crap though. But it was about $40 if you're looking for something a bit better than standard but won't break the bank.

Bring it if you need it for the child, but to carry your stuff? Remember, you will need to take it out for every ride and carry with you. If you leave your stuff in the stroller, you just significantly increase the chances of your entire stroller being stolen so they can rifle through your stuff, then ditch the stroller.

Lockers are NOT all over DL and when I want my stuff I don't want to walk all the way back to the locker to get it only to have to walk all the way back to where I was and wanted the stuff in the first place. There are NOT too many strollers in DL. We took our stroller for stuff and decided if it was too much hassle we wouldn't take it on the subsequent days. We were so happy to have it as were our girls who weren't forced to carry stuff all day long and could get a drink whenever they needed one. We would park our stroll inside a land and do what we wanted within that land then go back and get the stroller. I make keep this stroller forever!

I left EVERYTHING except my purse in the stroller and other than cast members moving the strollers to compact them in the stroller parking area as others were removed, it was fine. Nothing disappeared out of it.

Totally agree. Why would you bring a stroller for stuff to only add to the number of them in the parks. I think it is just plain rude. Bring one for the 3 year old (and the one for $40 a pp mentioned is a great idea) and have the 6 year old walk.

FYI, agree with this. When we go, my youngest will be 4.5 and my oldest 6.5. I will bring one stroller for the 4.5YO and if we turn out not to use it much on the first day, it will be left in the hotel. Just be sure to break up your day a bit do you have some seated opportunities to give your 6YO a chance to rest.

If would definitely use the shuttle if you are staying that far away from DL. That mile will seem like ten miles after a long day in the parks.

There are a lot of opinions on strollers. If you dont take a stroller for the 6 yo, you can always rent one while you are there. I believe it is $15 for the day. The main thing is to go with what works best for you and your kids.

We borrowed a sit n stand from friends who live in the area when we were there for our then 1.5y/o and 4.5 y/o. It was fantastic! We brought our umbrella stroller for the airport and whatnot, but am sooo happy we were able to borrow the sit n stand for Disneyland. My only complaints was that the little one wasn't able to recline much due to the child behind, and the child behind wasn't able to relax when she got tired. But it was fantastic otherwise. We were able to store our backpack in it when the kids were walking (the 4 y/o walked more so it was normally on the bench on the back). I'm considering bringing just an umbrella stroller this time around, as we'll have more room in the backpack for extra things (sweaters, etc), since we won't have bottles, formula or diapers for the baby. There are loads of used strollers (bigger than umbrella strollers, smaller than a full sized one) in my area.

Sorry but I still think it's inconsiderate to use a stroller to carry your stuff. DL is not a grocery store.

Do stroller haters have small children? I still take a stroller though my kids are 5 and 8. There is no way I can just carry my keys and APs and hope for the best; I need a backpack with sunscreen, snacks, changes of clothing, etc. and the 5 yr old often wants to be carried. Pretty sure I'm not ruining your DL experience by pushing my umbrella stroller around (which also serves as protection for the kids when crowds go crazy like during Star Tours opening!); you'd hate it a lot more if all of those worn out/wet/sunburned kids were wailing because their parents decided to go in to DL unprepared, for fear of strangers' misplaced upset.
That said, strollers are indeed inconvenient at DL. You'll pay for the luxury of having what you need at the ready by wasting time parking and finding the stroller at each ride, and unless you have a tiny umbrella stroller it is a pain to get on the tram, Monorail, and Main Street vehicles.

I just would not bring an extra stroller for stuff. Its a total hassle to lug a stroller arould for no reason.
I would bring a moderate size, more useful stroller for the little one, and then you could just bring an umbrella that you could keep at the hotel the first day. Test the waters, and if its too much walking for the older one, then you can always rent a stroller or use the umbrella the next day. That way, if you have a stroller with storage, you could put your stuff underneath, and its not taking up prime realestate.
Another idea is, you could let the 3yr old walk a bit, and give the 6yr old a break in the stroller and vise versa.
Last year we brought the double stroller for our 3yr old and 6month old. The 3year old wanted to walk sometimes and then wanted to sit sometimes. Othertimes when we were in large crowds it was honestly safer to have both kids safely buckled in and in our control.
