Stroller for big kid

We just got back from Disney and had rented a double stroller for my two kids (4 and 6). It was a LIFE-SAVER!! We plan to go back in a couple years and while I realize that a lot can change between now and then, I am worried that my son (now 6) will not be able to do all of the walking. We stayed at BLT and walked over to MK multiple times, so that's additional walking. Are there any stroller options for a bigger kid? Thanks in advance!

Depending on how big your son is he may be able to fit a bob stroller (I believe max weight is 75 lbs), another option would be to rent a double just for him. I'd wait to see how active he is though and would probably lean towards renting unless you plan to use the stroller for other outings as the Bob is an investment...

I would say if you arent sure, and want to do it on a budget, find an inexpensive umbrella stroller. We got an Evenflo one with a weight limit of around 60lbs. It was there for him to use (we had it for his 3 year old brother, but knew out 7 year old would want it more) but not so comfy he wanted to spend all day in it.

I have a BOB and while the weight capacity is high it's not very tall - my 6.5 year old now can sit in it but his head is touching the canopy and he's a peanut at 44".

I likely wouldn't purchase but hope to rent which I guess limits things even more. Are there any sit and stand options with a higher weight limit?

You can rent a city mini from the stroller rentals but then you would have to purchase one of the sit/stand boards because I don't see an option to add one to the rental. You could also rent a double stroller or look at the other options (there appear to be rentals that can accommodate a 75 lb child). If your going to rent and you don't want to rent from Disney again then I'd research the offsite vendors closer to your next trip and see what options they have at that time. Current these are the "featured providers" that I think most people choose to use if they don't bring their own or rent from Disney. They will even deliver the stroller to your hotel... You can look up additional information regarding these rental locations:

Disney Featured Providers
In addition to stroller rental locations across Walt Disney World Resort, several private companies in the local area also offer stroller rentals.

Additionally, wheelchairs and ECVs are available to rent as well.

Thanks! We rented from Kingdom Strollers last week and were very pleased. I'm just not seeing an option for a heavier/bigger child. Where do you see one that accommodates a 75 lb child? Also, would like to have a double or a sit/stand board so that my daughter (much smaller) could also ride. Do you know of a sit/stand board that has a higher max weight? I only found one that goes up to 45 pounds. I'll keep looking. Thanks for your help!

Personally, I would say renting is a total waste of money. You'll spend a fortune, when for a fraction of the price you can buy your own and then sell it, donate it, trash it when you're done. We used strollers for our kids until they were 8 or 9 years old...and my kids aren't peanuts. Since we have three kids, we had a single umbrella and then a double umbrella. They weren't the cheapest Wal-Mart special, but they weren't the most expensive. I guess you'd call it one step up from the most basic. They worked great. We didn't use the canopy since they were too tall for it anyway.

Those strollers are so expensive, not to mention the inconvenience of having to travel with it! I'd rather rent, but I know it's personal preference. We never use a stroller at home, so I feel like that would be a waste to buy. However, I appreciate your insight. :)

The strollers OP is considering are like 500 minimum so not really a good option if you are not going to use it on a regular basis. Unless you can find a used one on Craigs list and your trip will be long enough to make it worth it but even my 5 year old bob because it is in good condition would go for about 300 or so where I am.

So both Kingdom Strollers and Orlando Stroller rentals rent the Summit X3 which is a Bob equivalent. They for some reason have different weight limits on them though (Kingdom says up to 70 and Orlando Stroller Rentals say up to 75). Your child probably won't be in the stroller all day so I wouldn't worry about a few lbs. It's not like your going to run over hard terrain with your child while at Disney which is what a stroller like that is designed to be able to accommodate. Now if your kid is pushing 85 to 90 lbs I'd reconsider putting them in one of those strollers. Disney's double stroller does accommodate up to 100 lbs of child and/or cargo.

Thanks! I think I'll just put this thought on the back burner for now since we likely won't go back for awhile and like I said, a lot can change by then. But I'm glad to know I have a couple options. I appreciate your feedback and help!

Wow, guess I'm cheap. We never spent more than $100 on any stroller, for home or vacation use, even with our twins. Even when they were babies. For $500, it better be self propelled, be able to change diapers and sing the kid a lullaby. :joker:

I'm a runner so if I want to run and push my child I need a stroller that can accommodate that... at least I thought I was going to run with my kid in the stroller. Turns out mommy likes her alone time but it does come in handy for certain outings where we are on grass or easy trails but a regular stroller won't work... and fits my DD (4) still... honestly if I knew then what I know now about my running habits after children I wouldn't have purchased it but we will use it for both kids and since there is almost 5 years between them I'll get 10 years of use out of it. Not really bad all things considered. It does have bicycle wheels, shocks, and can off-road :upsidedow

We rented a Double Bob for my 2 year old and 4 year old. The 6 and 8 year olds walked. But my oldest is on the autism spectrum and at one point did become somewhat hot and overstimulated so he climbed into the stroller and pulled the shade all the way down so he was in the dark. He is very tall (4'10") and I'm sure it wasn't the most comfortable fit, but he did fit and my husband pushed him in it for a bit while I carried the 2 year old (because the 2 year old ONLY wanted to be carried!). The Bob is amazing because even with his 90 lb body in there, it still pushed like a dream. It was a beast to haul that thing onto buses but it was worth the effort.

Good to know! Thanks for the feedback!

This is good to know. We used a sit and stand last time for our then 9 month old DS and 5 year old DD, but DS is two now and in the 98th percentile for weight so I think our sit and stand is a no go this fall. Trying to find a double we can rent that will accommodate an almost 40 pound 2 year old and an almost 50 pound 7 year old. DD is light but tall so I'm glad to know it can handle bigger kids for short breaks and still pushes easily. She is a "stop and smell the roses" type of kid so we may lose our minds (or her...) with no stroller option for her!
