Stroller for a 5.5 year old?

We are going in June. I have a 2 DD's (1 year old and 5 years old).
I'll bring my stroller for the baby, and rent one at the park for the older one. We did this last year and it was a blessing! Otherwise we'd end up carrying her through the entire park.
Plus its nice to have a small place to sit or store stuff while you're waiting for the parade.

We brought one last month for DD4. It was great having it available.

Most days we didn't use it all and just left it in the room, but there are other times that it came in very handy, such as the P&P party. We stayed until midnight at which point DD just fell asleep in the stroller and we were able to wheel her onto the boat to the WL and from the boat directly to the room. It's also helpful at Epcot and AK, which can be a lot of walking.

I would probably rent one for a 5 year old. I plan on renting one for my 6 year old and bringing one for my 2 year old. Yes, it is expensive to rent. But when your paying a couple thousand dollars for a disney vacation what's another $40 to rent for 5 days??

Which Mac do you have? My Techno has the basket underneath (Not has huge as say a Graco, but I wouldn't give up the umbrella style fold for the basket...)

I have the Volvo- it was $99 at Target. I love how lightweight it is and it has longer handles so I don't have to hunch over as much ( I am 5'8"). It folds nicely so when we are on a tram or monorail it doesn't take much room at all.

after my son hit 4 he didnt need a stroller anymore at wdw...he walked around just fine without one,at 5 yrs old they should be fine walking around wdw i would just take a few breaks like getting on the tta or sitting down watching some shows, but at 5 they should have more than enough energy to walk around a park as long as your not there until close (we never are )my kids can outlast me when it comes to that stuff and still go swimming back at the hotel...lol

We have a 2 and 5.5 yr old. I'm buying a new Mac for our 5.5yr old. we have a Quest and Techno now but am selling the Techno to get a smaller model so will use that money.

Why waste money renting when you can put most of that money toward a nice stroller and own it and have it for going back to the rooms or touring other areas.

The Volo is a great option for most people.

My DS is too tall for the Volo w/ the sun shade on so I'll be getting another Quest or Triumph for him. He never uses a stroller at home but walking all day for a week he will get tired. Like PP said the stroller is great to carry the bags when the kids walk.

OK..I never even thought to park it in 1 spot and then go back for it..duh.

if you have one to bring, why not bring it? ours don't use strollers at home, but you better believe we are bringing our 4 yr olds and will rent one for the 6 yr old if need be.

Our kids are extremely active, but it isn't possible for us to get them ready for the amt of walking we will do IN THE FLORIDA HEAT. I simply can't replicate that environment in CT so I'd rather bring the stroller:)

I'd say rent if you need it. We went for 8 days when DS was the same age, and we rented a stroller only 3 of the days. - I wouldn't have wanted to deal with it in the airport, bus, etc. And DS would not have wanted to be in it at the resort. (POR is large, but very "explorable" from a kids point of view - bunnies to try to get a closer look at, bridges to cross, etc.)

Note - if you plan on park hopping, keep your receipt. - I think you just pay once for the whole day, even if you change parks.

I find it so interesting to read threads like this where opinions are at completely opposite ends. We have twins that will be 5 and we still take our double jogger to WDW and absolute LOVE it. Our girls love to pack up our jogger each night in the hotel room with their light-up toys and stuffed animals, light sweaters, etc. Then we head to park with late hours and the girls go, go, go until they get really worn out and they cuddle up in the jogger and fall asleep for the night. We love this! We recline the seats and make it really comfortable for them. We adults then grab a snack and enjoy some quiet time together while the kids sleep, then we take our time getting back to our hotel without having to wake the girls until we transfer them to bed. Now, having said that, I don't know how this will work at POR given that a bus will have to be taken back to the resort. I see that is where you're staying and we'll also be there in April splitting a trip between POR and WL. This is all new to us. We'll have to wake the kids up to load the bus. In any event, when you arrive back at POR, you can transfer the child back to the comfortable stroller and then go to the food court for a drink re-fill or late-night snack. It's great to have a stroller in Disney for times like this. It makes for such a relaxing trip when the kids have a place to rest. Otherwise, I think we'd be rushing back to our hotel room to get the kids to bed.

This is just what works for us, and it works very well! We have always had very relaxing trips and we feel it's because we've always taken a comfortable stroller/jogger from home.

We have a DDalmost3 and a DS5. We are taking both Mac Volos again this trip. My DS5 rarely uses his at home or at the mall or whatever but has requested it for Disney! We were just there 6 months ago so he remembers all the walking!

We once visited with our then 6 and 9 year olds and thought no strollers this trip! We ended up at Walmart after one day in MK! We did only buy a cheap umbrella but they fought over it the rest of the trip. :rotfl:

We are at POR this trip as well so the buses are somewhat of a concern but even at POLY last trip we used buses for MGM and AK and no problem on and off with volos as they are so light to lift and quick to fold/unfold.

Invaluable around spread out resorts. and DTD
