Stroller for 6yo?

Hi,
We are taking a trip at the end of October for 9 days. It will be myself, dh, ds age 6 and ds age 2 I'm trying to work out what to do about a stroller. We hired a double last summer when they were just 5 and just under 1, but it was a big expense. What do you all do for your 6yo's? He is not a great walker, unlike his little brother, but if we need to get across a park quickly, or anywhere at any speed, ds2 will have to use the stroller (we will bring that one from home)... And I'm worried that we will spend the whole time with a miserable 6yo.

We are staying at the contemporary so we are on the monorail which would make some things easier. Do you think we should hire a double? Hire a single from sonewhere? Or maybe do day hire single with one from Disney? (So we would both be pushing one all day...)

If you really think you will need it why not just rent the double.That way you wont need it on the monorail and only one person will have to push it.I would think a 6 year old is able at least with breaks be able to walk arond.The other option would be a sit and stand stroller you could purchase at home and own.Not sure how much to rent one as oppose to owning and having at airport .

I know he seems way too old for one, but I know that he will be severely jet lagged (past experiences have them waking at 2 or 3am for the first few days at least and then being up for the day... And last trip (he was 5) he slept through an entire meal at T-Rex in the stroller... That's how exhausted he was. It's crazy.

We took ours at just turned 5 and 6 1/2 and didn't even think about a stroller. They would have been offended at the very idea.

Does your 6 year old use a stroller at home?

Yes, the kids will likely be a little jetlagged (coming back from the US is far worse, as we are all too aware right now having returned from the west coast of the US on Tuesday), but so will you. You aren't trying to manage each park in just a day on a 9 day trip, so I would honestly try slowing down a little bit and only taking a single stroller. You can always rent a double if you find you need it, but with a little one who wants to walk you could also allow the bigger one a break from time to time if needed.

My 6 year old has flat feet and her lags ache with a lot of walking. I'm not sure how she is going to do, so we are planning on renting a single from disney on days that she needs it. We will have a single for our baby and worst case, we can hold the baby and give my older daughter a break in our stroller from home

My DD is 5 & we didn't take a stroller for her on our trip last month. My son is just 2 so we do have one for him that we let her ride in if DS is having a walk or being carried. My DD would love to have her own stroller as she loves being pushed around but I feel that at her age she should be able to manage the walking especially as we tend to do only half days. I do appreciate she gets tired especially with the Jet lag but she gets little rests when she really needs them.

I'd use a stroller with a step (some have them built-in, like a Perego P3), or get an add-on (type depends on what stroller you have). Then he can hop on when tired or you need to go somewhere quickly, but not feel babyish in a stroller seat.

I'd rent the Disney double stroller when you're in the parks. Outside the parks, I'd do without one, for sure. It was kind of expensive, but still well worth it for our days park enjoyment. Bonus Disney magic - at Epcot they gave the rental to us FREE for being the first family that day to the stroller rental station! You can bet my thrifty DH was thrilled!! Don't know if anyone still does that, but what a cool surprise!

When we rented the Disney double when my kids were 6 and 4. We had a touring plan, and a were on a mission, as it was high crowd time. DH and I wanted to move around at a faster pace than our kids would want to go, even though they were way beyond stroller use at home. They thought it was a very fun treat, even though a lot of times one or both walked and the stroller was a holder for our collective stuff.

I don't have a stroller than my 6 year old fits in anymore. On our recent trip to Disneyland, he got sick and was moving even slower than normal (which is already pretty slow). I offered to rent him a stroller in the park, but he refused.

So, even sick, my 6 year old didn't want a stroller. But I like the idea of being able to rent one at Disney, "just in case." So I guess I'd start the trip without, but know I could get one if necessary.
