Stroller for 100+ pound kid

Lauren, I was thinking the same thing!

I know you're probably soo excited to take your nephews, but don't forget about yourself. You're in Disney World, too! If you're exhausted from pushing them around in 1 stroller the entire trip, you don't want to be miserable! :(

At the risk of turning this into the ever popular- when is a child too old for a stroller- debate....

I think to say any child over 2 would be embarrassed is a bit of an overstatement.

My grandson is 2 1/2 and while he considers his stroller a great impediment to his full enjoyment of the world (translation, running off in the opposite direction of anyone he knows as fast as possible), he's not embarrassed. He doesn't even know what embarrassed is. I know this because of things he does in public that he's perfectly happy to do- like get naked at the drop of a hat, yelling at the top of his lungs that he has to go potty.

He's just mad he has to be in it.:)

with that said there is a huge difference between a 2 1/2 year old boy and an 8 year old boy. my nephew is 8, he wouldn't ride in a baby stroller if I paid him cash.

Thank you all for the recommendations
I understand what you say. However, the oldest kid is kind of ...let's say he is not used to physical activity. The mother thinks the boy won't walk at all (they don't force him to do anything).
I also said to her that a wheelchair would be better but she thinks that he will not want to use it.:snooty:

If his mother is coming too then let her push the 200lbs around. That is ridiculous! You enjoy your trip. Disney is hard enough without pushing or pulling anything else around. At 7 and 8 if you want to do Disney you're going to walk it or stay home IMO. EVERYONE is hot and tired after a day in the parks, and it only gets worse as the week wears on. Comfy shoes can help and there are plenty of ways to work in breaks.

Absolutely! A huge difference.

I was just referring to the post who said any child over 2-

Who is going to push the stroller? I struggled to push my 50 lb kid a few years ago. The disney strollers don't move well without kids in them, I think a wheelchair might be the best for the pusher.

You might be surprised. I am just back from a trip with my 7 year old DD. First time without a stroller (last time we were at Disney, she was 4). I thought we'd get lots of whining and complaining about the walking, and she didn't complain once. Not only did we walk in the parks, we also walked TO and FROM the parks in most cases (to Epcot and HS from the Boardwalk, and to MK from CR).

I'm still not clear on if the OP is looking for one super-large double stroller, two single strollers, or one single stroller for the boys to alternate using.

In any event, I would suggest a trial run to Babies R Us or Buy Buy Baby. Have them sit in the stroller(s), and you try to push it around. I suspect it won't be fun or comfortable for anyone. I don't think the strollers at WDW will accommodate both boys, so you'd need to rent something from a third-party or buy and bring your own. If pushing such a large stroller isn't going to be workable, it might be better to know that in advance, so you don't waste money on a stroller.

I'll also second the suggestion of asking your nephews. My DD, who is also eight, would be horrified if I suggested she ride in a stroller.

I don't think you need a stroller, just a flexible attitude and a good touring plan. While the very active commando-touring peeps run across and backtrack all over the park at rope drop, I think you just have to accept the fact that your family will be happier with a touring-style that focuses on seeing attractions in more of an order that they are closest together. Take breaks, see shows, and skip the strollers. Don't park-hop. Have the kids each pick a few must-do's and anything else in near proximity consider to be icing on the cake.

If you have another adult with you, (kid's mom?) by all means, take some time for yourself after the kids tire out and go back to the hotel with their mom.

Oh! I forgot to mention I'm just asking on both mother's behalf. Im just a bystander. ...believe me I wont be pushing anything LOL
Ive been in disney multiple times, just not with kids.!! Anyway, thank you for your recommendations :thumbsup2

Orrrrrrr--maybe they are happier pushing strollers and going commando?

My kids have mysterious ailments (foot or knee) that show up when it's time to clean or (stomach) when there's a test at school. Those same complaints do not seem to plague them when we're at the park or playing.

Also, when we're at Disney, we have a policy that anyone can call for a break at any time.

A friend of ours has a MacClaren Major that goes up to, I think, 120 pounds, but it is really designed to be for special needs children, so I don't know if that is something you'd be ok with.

We have a Graco that goes to 55 pounds, which DD(8) just outgrew (though we'll probably take it one more time before finally giving in and obeying the instructions). We only ever used it for Disney World, but those parks are huge! I have no issue with pushing her for the day when we are there, plus like having a place to stash stuff and a comfy place for her to sit while we wait for the parade. She is in great shape, and a total trooper while slogging through most of our vacations, but EPCOT in 90+ heat? I have no issue with her enjoying a stroller ride.

This made me laugh, because my 11 and 14 year old nephews spent yesterday seeing if they could fit into any of my strollers/sit and stands, thinking they could kick my kids out during our Feb trip to sit. Needless to say, neither of them fit, but I can still see them trying it come February!

This is just a ridiculous topic. Who in their right minds would use a stroller for a 100lbs 8 year old?

The scary thing, part of me thinks it's not a bad idea. My youngest daughter is 8 and I can see her at the end of MVMCP saying "Daddy carry me!". No need to carry, just break out the stroller. Brilliant!

I knew if I waited long enough, I'd have the chance to post this from last spring.

+1. I won't even bring water bottles or my eyeglasses case - as it's extra weight in the backpack.

I'm fit and have twins. I remember when they were 2 or 3, in a lightweight double jogging stroller on flat pavement in crisp fall weather in New England. Even they were heavy in that situation. 200lbs, in Florida, plus Disney crowds?! Ugh.

I suspect that they boys will be so excited to be going to Disney they will want to walk. Or just take lots of breaks. My family does about 4 hours at the park and then off to the hotel for lunch and swimming.

Hi, I am going to Disney this October !!:cool1:
however, both nephews are big (tall and overweight), about 105 pounds each. They are 7 & 8 years old and I know they will NOT want to walk at the end of the day.
What do you recommend when it comes to strollers? Will Disney strollers be fitting? :confused3

Oh! I forgot to mention I'm just asking on both mother's behalf. Im just a bystander. ...believe me I wont be pushing anything LOL

I'm a bit confused - you are an aunt to 2 nephews and they along w/ each of their mothers will be vacationing with you in WDW in October?
Is there anyway you can make daily walking for your nephews between now and the vacation a fun thing to do?
Heck, I'm average size and I'm doing a walking program to up my endurance for WDW this coming January - every little bit helps and will certainly increase your nephews' enjoyment during the vacation.

I've had 2 of my kids at Disney now at age 8, and they walked from sun up to sun down... no way was I getting a stroller for them, and no way would they have sat in one at that age. We took drink and shade breaks during the day, went back to the resort for a rest/swim mid afternoon if it was way too hot. You have to suit your days to the people you are experiencing them with, and if the nephews aren't going to want to walk around for 8+ hours then you'll just have to plan your breaks or plan the relaxing sit down shows, etc., for the best times. Remember they'll be 'taking breaks' while doing the shows, or even while waiting in line or through the ride, or at your meals. Those are the fun breaks :)

Our last trip we had a triple with all three kiddos (4, 3 and infant). The three of them plus the stroller is right at 100 lbs let me tell you I would not want to be the adult pushing around 200 lbs.:scared:
