Stroller Bag??? (update)*got it today...LOVE it!*

Goldenears - find out what the folded dimensions of the double umbrella stroller are and maybe we can help you with more info. :) The Peg Perego Pliko P3 is pretty darn big (for an umbrella style stroller) when folded, so if the double umbrella folds fairly small, it may work.

The big question on shipping is - is your local Wal-Mart going to be a royal PITA to go and get it from? I know mine was the one time I ordered something delivered to the store. It was worth it for me to pay the small shipping fee to get it to my house and not have to deal with that messy, disorganized, crowded unfriendly place.

The folded dimensions of the double that I am thinking about getting
are 45x9x7.
Just looked at the Walmart link and the specs for the bag are 43x12x12. Looks like the height would be off a little.
Any ideas or other bags that might work???
I appreicate your help!

Not sure how this would work but what if you put the stroller into the bag handles first? That way just the wheels (or just a bit of them would be all that was hanging out? You could maybe tighten the bag around the end of the stroller or wheels or wherever the stroller bag ends.

That way the majority of the stroller (and the most important parts...fabric, hood, handles) are protected without spending a ton of money on a travel bag? Does that make any sense? LOL

Yes, that makes sense to me and for $14 I guess it would be worth a try, right?!:) Thanks for your help!

KB Toys has an umbrella stroller bag that looks like it might be bigger than the red "Gate Check" one.

$9.99 and free shipping!

I have the double stroller version of this bag and it seems sturdy enough for the job. After reading some reports of ppl's gate check items going to the luggage claim, I was thinking of using white shoe polish to write "GATE CHECK" on it. Maybe that would be a tad overboard, but I'll need the double stroller as soon as I get off the plane.

If the shoulder strap is removable, I'd recommend doing so-- or at least shortening it so it doesn't get tangled. It has the shorter straps too, so the baggage handlers would still have something to grab on to.

Oh, I've also seen the Red Gate Check bag at Babies R Us stores, so maybe if you have one near you, you can pick it up there. I think it was $15.

Thanks for the awesome idea. We bought a $40 umbrella stroller for our trip in September, but I hadn't thought about a bag to put it in... I'm buying the red Walmart one. Site to store shipping has worked perfectly for me when I've used it in the past, and Walmart isn't far from me. If you are unsure whether to order it or not, you can return any site-to-store items at any Walmart store (but they won't reimburse for shipping). Since shipping is free with site-to-store, you wouldn't be out anything if you use that method. Then you could try it and see if it will work for you.

Does anyone have a cheap source for the rain hood to cover an umbrella stroller?

The red 'Gate Checked' walmart bag barely fit my Mac Techno XLR, so I'm certain it wouldn't fit a double. You should definitely put any stroller handles-end in first. The bag didn't quite cover all of the rear wheels, but it did its job. Our bag had a few of those mysterious black marks on it, so thank goodness we had it. :thumbsup2

Thanks, good to know for the future I guess. We just returned from WDW last week and luckily didn't have any problems with our stroller get damaged. Has anyone here had their strollers damaged or known someone who has?

Yup, add another one to the damaged stroller list. We brought a cheapo Jeep umbrella stroller, and they scratched it up, got it all dirty, and lost the cupholder on the side. IT WAS BRAND NEW!!! When they gave it to us I even said to the guy "oh, that can't be ours....ours was brand new." It looked like it was a few years old. Yea it was a cheapo, but man, am I glad I learned my lesson with that one and not one of my expensive ones. We bought a thick canvas bag for our stroller, and both time we checked it after that the bag was filthy and torn!!! The stroller was fine inside and stayed protected. I swear by looking at the bag, you'd think they drag them around in the dirt and then carry them behind a moving car or something. Anyway, I definatly reccommend bags for your stroller, oh and PADDED bags for your car seats. Last flight it was raining and we saw all the carseats sitting out in the rain on the conveyer belt just waiting to be put in last. They were soaked!! I'd hate to have the kids who had to sit in them when they got to their location. The carseats also kept falling off the conveyer belt and onto the concrete. The guy kept throwing them back onto the conveyer belt, and half the time they would miss and fall back onto the concrete. I'm sure they were just trash when they were done with them!!!

Lori - thanks for the comments about car seats and airline handlers. I was thinking about checking DS's car seat and was actually going to order a bag for it today, but I'll just take it on the plane and put him in it like we did last time. That doesn't sound like the car seats are treated well at all! I would worry the weren't safe after seeing them fall on the concrete multiple times! :scared:

Yea, that is what I thought! We are going to have to check at least one this coming trip, and I am very nervous about it. Both kids have Britax, and I would be very upset if they were broken. I'm thinking of using the padded bag, plus wrapping comforters around it. Hopefully it will protect it!!! Any other ideas?

We have Britax for DS too and I got a cheapie from Wal-Mart to travel with. It's lighter to carry and smaller (fits in the airline seat better). Cosco Scenera 5-Point Convertible Car Seat (2 patterns available now) $49.84. I've seen them in our local store. With one kid it wasn't too bad, but I'm sure $100 extra would hit the pocket book for 2 kids. But, if it IS in your budget...

We've used ours quite a bit actually! It has been nice to have an extra seat to put in the car if a friend (with a kid, obviously) is going somewhere with me. Much easier than taking their seat out of their car, into my car, back into their car....... And when I took a trip, someone was watching Ethan for a day and they could use it and DH didn't have to worry about moving the Britax and getting it installed again (he's not so good with stuff like that -- anything that requires patience, ya know? LOL)
