Stripping the room linens before you leave

Just read an interesting article about the 5 dirtiest things in a hotel room. I never realized that they skip the pillowcases. Yuk. This led me to find out if others do as my DH and I do, strip all the linens off all the beds and put in the tub before leaving.

I do this so that they have to put on a clean spread, blankets, sheets and pillowcases. Another big one is the mattress pad, who wants to sleep on someone used mattress pad? We have also been know to throw the damp towels on last so they have to remove and wash all the bedding. This way the next guest is at least getting clean linens throughout their room.

Are we the only ones who do this?

thanks
Judy

We do exactly the same thing for exactly the same reasons. It also assures me that we don't miss any stuffed animals or game cards.

We basically do the same thing, we stack the towels in the tub and place the linens on the end of the bed.

I do all the time and please also open the sofa bed and strip it if you use it. One 1 trip I opened the sofa first when we got there and low and behold it had been used and the covers were pulled down half way. I took pictures and called MK for new linens.

When I read your title, my thought was, why should I? Isn't that service I pay for? And then I read the responses. . .

Alright, y'all convinced me, I'll start stripping the beds! I'm a "pay it forward" kinda gal, so it makes total sense to me. (And for the record, we do always leave the sofa bed open, if we use it.)

This makes me think who was the person in the room before me, and did they do this? This is a great idea and this will be done when we leave from now on!

We need to continue to pass the word. If we get more people to do this we all get clean linens. Have your kids do it, if you have kids, while you are finishing getting ready to leave. The will love ripping the beds apart if they are young and you can make them suffer if they are teens.

So glad I am not alone

My husband has been doing this for years! He is a fanatic about this. No sleeping on someone's pillow case for us!

We don't usually throw wet towels on top, but I figure if they are having to make up the bed anyway then I can't imagine they wouldn't use new sheets... But I suppose I could be convinced to take little more insurance out next time.

Ok, I guess I'm first for the no, we don't remove the sheets and I have no plans to in the future. I put the dirty towels in the tub and start the dishwasher, but that's as far as I go. We leave the place pretty clean.

Just a tiny bit off subject but along the same lines. We punch holes in rolls and biscuits we do not eat at restaurants to prevent them from being reused after I read an article about how they re-cycle them. I will start stripping the bed linens or at least place wet towels on as noted above, thanks for the heads up...smjj

Do the same thing. Main reason I do it is to make sure nothing was missed while packing.

:crazy2:

YES YES YES! I always strip the beds. Not only does it insure fresh linens but it makes just a bit less work for overworked and underpaid housekeepers. I even do this when I stay with friends. I strip the bed on the last day and put the linens in the laundry room as a reminder for them as well.

Ok so some of you strip the bed linens off the bed when you leave, but what do you do when you arrive? Do you re strip the bed, wash the linens and make the bed? I can see how you are ensuring the bed for the next guest, but how do you determine your own bed on arrival??? I'm confused. I will toss the towels in a pile in the tub, but do nothing with the bed linens. Grant it, I will look everything over on arrival, but if it looks neat and clean, I'm ok.

Nope. We have done it since our first trip when I found a little Barbie shoe and a toy lipstick in the foot of the sheets - under the bed spread and top sheet. Now I wash all the linens before we sleep the first day.
On the day we leave, I strip all the beds and I always wet everything a little so they can't just put them right back on the bed.

I don't think placing wet towels on the bed is a good idea at all. By the time they get to the room to clean it, the mattress could be damp and believe me they are not going to change out the mattress. I think removing the sheets is enough.

^^ Agreed. I don't leave them on the bed. I strip the bed and put them on the bathroom floor. I wouldn't leave dirty laundry on the bed, wet or not.
