String's Atkin's Journal (Please Comment)

Your afternoon sounds like fun!! I hope you have a great time!! I will be checking back for a full review of the movie you saw. ::yes::

Today was frustrating. I did great at the Y. I did 25 minutes on the arc-trainer then 45 on the treaddie. I felt good. Went to lunch. I had 3 french fries and a garden salad with ranch. I've had 3 liters of water so far.

We went to the Icredibles. Katie was hysterical 30 minutes into it. She was so scared that we had to leave. Then she is upset because she didn't get to see Violet fight the bad guys. I know I shouldn't be upset. She is a sensitive kid, and right now has some fear issues. I just wish I hadn't wasted $20 and an afternoon. I'm sure she's going to have nightmares too. Poor kid. BTW, I don't think the movie is scary, at least what I saw of it. Don't let Katie's reaction deter you.

I'm off to fold laundry. I need to figure out dinner too.

Oh bummer. :(

Do you think it was too loud for her? I am sorry you didn't get to see the movie. It does feel like an awful waste of $$ when you have to walk out. We have had to do that with my DS twice. He gets very emotionally wrapped up in a movie. Even though he knows it is pretend, it still doesn't matter.

You did great at the Y and lunch though!! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Katie is so cute- that is just how I pictured her!
Beth- my son was the same way a few years ago- I would say between the ages of 3-4 going to the movies was a crap shoot- he would really like it sometimes- but other times he would be over sensitive to the stimulation- the sound especially. We had to leave quite a few movies back then.
The Incredibles is like my family - Mom(me), Dad(DH), Older sister Violet (Bridget), younger brother Dash(Joey), baby boy Jack Jack(Thomas) - That is why I put them as my avatar. I haven't seen the movie yet.

You're on the ball with your workouts- keep it up!

Beth, I'm sorry you didn't get to stay and see all of the movie. :( I hope that whatever is having that affect on Katie passes soon.

Other than that though it looks like you had a good day, way to go! :)

I needed to talk about the movie again. I think I was frustrated/sad about it because it is so rare for me to do something "cool" with Katie. Birthday parties are always on the weekend. During the week, I always clean, cook, do laundry, shop, etc. Daddy is the one who takes her to the parties and movies, the zoo. I was excited to do this with her. Taking an entire afternoon to goof off is something I rarely have time to do. I was just so dissappointed that the afternoon didn't go as planned. Katie seems fine now. Thanks for stickng with me.
Beth

Beth - I'm sorry it didn't work out like you planned. Being the mother of two DD's, I know how you feel. I've planned special outings with my girls, usually by themselves and something usually happens (tantrums) to ruin it. As they have gotten older, it's been better. She'll grow out of it and you'll have another chance to enjoy a movie together.

Oh, Beth. Sorry about the movie. You live and you learn, right? Well, you can TRY to learn. . .sometimes with kids you just don't know what to expect--you're just along for the ride!:p Years ago
we took DD Liz to see the live action version of 101 Dalmations--you know, the one with Glenn Close as Cruella? Well, she had seen the original animated version about a gazillion times and was really looking forward to the movie. Wouldn't you know she took one look at the "real" Cruella and was scared to death! We stayed for a few minutes with her head buried in my shoulder (DD was about 6) and then had to go when the tears started. She STILL doesn't like that movie. :p Yeah, parenthood's an adventure.

I'll be thinking of you this weekend as you deal with the pressures of work.

 Take care, Erin

Well, I am over myself and the disappointment. I am however in complete denial. I am really bloated, so I avoided the scale today. My ring usually falls off my finger, but today I can barely move it. I won't weighin until Monday. In the meantime, I'll continue to drink my water.

Plan for the day...
Hit the Y for weights and cardio.
Fold the last load of laundry.
Nap.
Work 12 hours tonight.

Meals..
B: 2 string cheese and tea.
L: Salad.
5PM: Coffee and ham/cheese rollup.
9PM: 1 string cheese
1AM: Salad and crustless quiche.
5AM: Morning Start bar.
I am also picking up 1 snack pack of the RS lc mint patties. I need some chocolate, but buying it form the gift shop limits me to 2 pieces. It also gives me something to look forward to. Chocolate.

I probably won't make it to many journals. I am working 2 12 hour shifts, and I have to take Katie to swim lessons Sat morning bwecause Won has to teach for an hour.

Take care and have a great weekend.
Beth

I agree Katie will outgrow this stage. I'm sorry you were so disappointed. That has happened to all of us. It will get better as they get older I promise. Have good shifts at work.:D

Beth, way to go in getting back to your workouts! Sorry you're feeling rather "puffy" but I'm really hoping the water intake will help soon. If it doesn't, please get checked out by the doc.

I hope you have 2 smooth shifts over the weekend! :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

:drinking: :drinking: :drinking: :drinking: :drinking:

Drink up girl! You know that bloat will diminish when you drink your water! Chin up and take care of yourself on that 12 hour shift!

Hi Beth,

I am sorry that the movie didn't go as planned. It's always hard when we plan something for our kids and it doesn't go quite as planned.

Have a great weekend at work! :drinking1 water like a :fish: and take good care of you!

Don't feel bad about being disappointed. It's okay. I know for me, so much of *my* time is spent being the 'bad guy' - gotta clean your room, go do your homework, sit down and study, have you finished your book report, did you brush your teeth, don't touch that, put that down... blah blah blah blah blah. I relish those times where we get to do something 'special' and fun!

Sending you :wizard: for calm, quiet, efficient 12 hour shifts! You are doing great!

Beth:

I am sorry that you and Katie had to leave the movie. My nieces report that it is as "incredible" as described - but they are now almost 13 and 7.

I do remember when my oldest niece lived with us (between ages 3 and 6) that we went from being able to go and see anything...if she was bored she'd just fall asleep. Then all of a sudden Beauty and Beast set her off into night terrors. It took my old cat to physically search her room for monsters each night before she could go to sleep. Surprisingly Horatio was quite good at going through the motions every evening and then curling up on the end of the bed to wait for storytime. Then he and I would leave the door open a crack with the promise we would look in on her later. Some morning I would wake up to find Charly with her pillow and blanket asleep on the floor next my side of the bed. She didn't wake us up, she just found a place that she considered safe.

Allysa, now almost 7, went through a similar time where movies were just out of the question. She was fine if she watched the movies at home, but the theatre was too "real". She grew out of it about kindergarten time frame. I remember digging up storybooks about the movie we wanted her to see and reading the books to her. She then would decide if the movie was OK to go and see.

Beth, Katie will remember the lunch out and that you were willing to do a girls afternoon out long after the movie has made it to DVD. But maybe it would be better to plan for some mom/daughter swims or some trips to see Christmas decorations. She probably would take right to ice skating too.

Have a good weekend at work - I'm sending good vibes for peaceful shifts.

Beth, I agree with the post above. What will stick with Katie is having a mother who is responsive to her needs. Recognising that she had to get out of there, and honoring that is more important than anything else. I'm sorry it was a letdown.

How's that puffiness? Drives you bananas, doesn't it? Fenugreek capsules are fabulous for getting rid of water weight (and mucous, when you have a cold - just don't take it when pregnant).

Hope you're feeling yourself soon, and wishing you all the best through those shifts (I know all about them ... I'm of afternoons this weekend, 5p.m. to 3 a.m. --- yawn!)

Love,

Kris

Hey Beth! How goes the weekend? I hope absolutely nothing stressful or crazy happens this weekend for you! You've had enough of that kind of stuff lately!!

I am sending you bucket loads of :goodvibes, :wizard: and a great big . I hope all goes well for you this weekend!

:wave2: Hi Beth,
I hope your weekend is going smoothly. Please take care  .

Hi All,

I had a great weekend at work. Ok, did you all fall down on the floor from shock?:p It was crazy busy, but this time of year always is. The group I worked with really pulled together to work as a team, and we had a couple of great saves. Now the exciting part. I planned and participated in a wedding. One of my patients last week was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. He has maye 6 months to live. He asked his girlfriend of 22 years to marry him. They were getting married Friday evening. Friday morning , he has a heart attack, and ends up in the cath lab. All he can talk about is that he ruined the wedding. I asked what he would do, if he could. He said, I'd get married from this bed right now. I made a few phone calls. I arranged for his fiancee to bring the license, her dress, boquet, a nice pair of pants, tie and short sleeved shirt for him. I arranged for the chaplain to marry them in the chapel. The short sleeved shirt, so the IV's and monitor could be maintained. It was supposed to take place at 10AM, but when I came in, they had rescheduled it for 8PM, so I could be matron of honor. It was so cool. I was crying like a baby, and I looked horrible, but they were so happy. It was awesome. The unit pooled some money and got them a cake.

I was totally op for the weekend. No exercise though.

Have a good one,
Beth

Hi Beth...

I'm glad you had a great day at work and that was such a wonderful thing to do for that couple. It's things like that that make your job worth while. :sunny:
