Just thought I'd post cause I'm a little concerned about proposed strikes I am due to fly Virgin from Gatwick on the 2nd December one of the proposed days for strikes.

What a wonderful start to a holiday thats if we get there

Hi Jane,

I'm rather concerned myself, I fly out from Glasgow on 29th Nov, no strike that day but there is one on 28th Nov, Anyone know if this strike will have a knock on effect till the next day?

Also there is a strike on the 15th Dec, the day we fly home!!

If anyone hears of any more info on the expected strikes could they please let us all know?

I read yesterday that only about 25% pf staff would walk - the planes will still be flying and it's only a possibility that the airports would close.

I fly out on the 2nd December too and you know what I say......

However, I have read that if they do strike it could just be 15 minute stoppages.

What are the proposed dates of the Strikes?

I heard a bit about this last night but only hearsay - I think I luck out, I fly out on the 1st December and back on the 8th/9th, but I want to double check...

Astrid, it is the air traffic controllers who are threatening 15 minutes strike(s?). This is separate from the airport workers who are threatening day-long stikes in the run up to Christmas.

Although 15 minutes doesn't sound long, I guess it would have a major effect on travel. What would the planes do for 15 minutes? Speaking personally, I wouldn't want to be in the air for that length of time with no ATC cover. Maybe all the planes will have to land - that would certainly take longer than 15 minutes.

It all sounds like a bad time to travel in the air. Let's hope that that disputes are settled without too much disruption.

I'm due to land home on the 23rd which is one of the dates mentioned - maybe we'll be spending more time in New York than originally planned!

Penny - The dates according to the BBC News are: 28th November and 2nd, 10th, 15th, 23rd December and 2nd January.

Would've posted the dates early but at work I can look but not touch DISBOARDS because of firewall!

I'm trying to keep pos. Rang Virgin early this morning and at the moment they are making "contingencies" probably just fobbing people off at the moment. My big concern is cancellations. Delays are annoying a cancellation would be not very good at all. (Being very polite!) Not only like a lot of people do I have MVMCP tickets but also I have an event with GOAL paid for. As its a Birthday thing it wouldn't work at another time!

Perhaps the airlines are planning to use other airports Manchester, Luton etc? if there are any spare slots?

We fly 3rd - 21st just missing strike dates - but if they strike on the 2nd I suppose there may be some knock on effects

we also fly out on a strike day - I spoke to BA and they said that if the strike occurred then they would arrange for us to fly out on the next available flight with seats - seeing as we are going on 15 dec dont hold out much hope of getting out before xmas, and I have DVC booked with points. BA said they wouldn't be able to do anything until at least a couple of days beforehand - and I just told the kids !!!! Happy holidays.
