strict with occupancy limits?

Are the pullouts in the family suites large enough for teens? How about the bunk beds in the cabins - is it a double with a single on top? Thanks for all the info!

The pullout sofa and chair have gotten very good reviews.
The ottoman is is a different design since there is a back on the sofa and chair but not the ottoman.

Here are a couple of reviews:

We stayed in the Family suites w/ 2 big teens 16(girl) & 17(boy) and a 7 year old. No problem sleeping on the pull-outs. We liked it better than 2 rooms for a few reasons: privacy for parents, couch and chairs to hang out on or watch tv, kitchen area. The kitchen was very nice for leftovers, snacks and drinks. We pulled the coffee table over to the table and had seating for 4 to eat. Walking to the food court for breakfast and bringing it back was our version of room service! Between the bedroom, kitchen and living room there is a lot of space to put 'stuff'. I would really prefer a family suite over 2 rooms for a longer stay.

Back in April of this year we stayed in the Family Suites at ASMu thanks to Linda's lovely advice. We were all very happy and comfortable in them.

It was 5 adults and all of us slept comfortably.

Not quite sure how big the bed in the 1 room is because it didn't feel like a full because it was slightly bigger than a full, but didn't look like a Queen either. :confused3

Anyway, 2 adults fit comfortably in it though.
The 1 adult fits comfortably in the single pull out beds (the chair and ottoman). 2 small children may fit in the chair pull out too.
1-2 adults fit comfortably in the pull out couch which is the size of a full.

I didn't sleep on any of the pull outs. The reports were the chair and couch were very comfortable, but the ottoman wasn't as comfy.
I lied down on the chair pull out bed for awhile and the time I was there it was comfortable and I couldn't feel any bars or springs.

The kitchenette area was wonderful. It has a microwave, mini fridge and coffeemaker. The resort supplies 1 roll of paper towel, plastic eating utensils, a bottle opener/corkscrew, teas and instant coffees (instant coffee that is in the filtered bags already), paper plates and bowls, plastic cups and there was plenty of storage space.

The bathrooms were nice and having 2 was a big plus for 5 females. No fights for bathrooms and shower time. There's plenty of room in the closet/sink area to store luggage and to hang clothes. There was also plenty of drawer space for all 5 of us.

Having the 2 TVs was great too.

The internet connection was in the bedroom (but the connection cord was out in the living room area we later found out).

So we were very satisfied with the room and layout. We didn't feel cramped and were comfortable. There wasn't a lot of noise, no complaints. I think the only one was hearing the bathrooms from the adjoining room in the living room, but if we closed our bathroom door we couldn't hear it.

We were in the Calypso building 10, 3rd floor, Room 656 or 0656 and had a pool view and were VERY close to the food court/front desk/gift shop/bus stops. The laundry and bar by the pool was also very close.

I'll share some pictures in the next post.

So thank you Linda! I hope Disney makes more suites too and I hope they start offering Discounts on them because that to me was the only drawback. :sad1:

Here is the layout of a FW cabin:

Fort_Wilderness-CABIN-LR.gif

The bunks are twins and the murphy bed is a double.

Family Suites vs. Fw cabins:

Both sleep 6.
FW cabin has a double bed and a bunk bed and double size Murphy bed , a full kitchen, 1 or 2 TVs ( some guests have repoted they had 2 TV's others have said they only had 1 TV in the cabin) and 1 bathroom.

Family Suites has a Queen size bed in a master bedroom area, a fold out sofa, fold out chair and fold out ottoman. The Suite also has a kitchenette. 2 TVs and 2 bathrooms. The Suites also have a privacy curtain(like the mod's have) by each of the sinks.

The FW cabins start at $249 during value season.
The Family Suites start at $179 during value season.
Here is the web site with the resort rates for 2007:

http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/disney-rates-2007.htm#VALUE

The cabins will also charge $10 extra a night for extra adults.
1-6 adults can stay at the Family Suites for the same set price.

DH and I stayed in a Family Suite at All Star Music ( a value resort) last Sept. (2006)

We really enjoyed the Queen size bed, the kitchenette with the microwave, having a sofa and cushioned chair to sit on and relax after a day at the parks before retiring for the evening.

I thought the pullouts very comfortable.

They are designed so the back cushion and seat cushion of the pullout support the pullout. There is no metal bar to hurt the sleepers back.

Have fun at Disney wherever you choose to stay!:wizard

Others have already explained evacuation routes and the like.

Resort amenities such as pool size and size of CS restaurant is based on a specified capacity of the resort. If every room was occupied by a family of 5 the resort would be 25% over capacity.

Some of the deluxe hotels solve the issue by offering standard size rooms that sleep 4 and deluxe rooms that sleep 5. PO handles the issue by having a trundle bed in a limited number of rooms.

The question isn't about letting one family sneak one extra kid. The issue is if the hotel could safely, and efficiently operate, if the capacity of every room was increased from 4 to 5.

I guess Disney could have built some of the value rooms bigger and offered increased occupancy but many of the same posters NOT ON THIS THREAD would be complaing about having to pay more for the larger rooms.

The suites in the All-Stars accomodate larger famlies, that want to be in one unit.

I guess I don't understand how these fire codes work. If they can allow 5 in a room at POR rooms with trundles, and they are the same square footage as other mods, then what's the big deal? Can someone please explain how this works? I am not planning on breaking any codes, just curious why it is allowed in some places and not in others?

We are a family of 5 and opted for a room at POR instead of one of the suites. Mainly because I was able to make the decision and I wanted to stay at POR. However, if a discount comes out, we may be switching to CR which has some rooms available for 5.

I've always been told ( as a DVC member for 10 years) that the one bedroom units ONLY allow a party of 4 plus an infant under 3 in a crib. AKV now will have one bedroom units that allow 5 which is great. I know a lot of members had asked for that as the one bedroom units are certainly spacious enough to allow five guests...the ones at AKV will now have another chair sleeper for that extra person. If you try and book with DVC points through MS and list 5 guests, you will be told you cannot use a one bedroom unit. ---Kathy

Obviously, I can't speak for Kathy's experiences, but there are MULTIPLE reports on the DVC boards that, in fact, you CAN (and MS will allow it and at times even encourage it) book 5 in a 1 BR...they just won't provide bedding. There are reports, even, that they've allowed 5 in a 1BR with the dining plan. So while I'm sure Kathy is accurately reporting her experiences, I'm equally sure others are doing the same.

This is an ongoing argument over on the DVC boards. I don't believe that it's fire code. No way DVC would break fire code and allow 5 in a 1 bedroom. That would be a huge liability if a fire would breakout and something would happen. The DVC 1 bedroom has 2 exits and is over 700 square feet. What it comes down to is there are only sleeping spots for 4 people. King bed for 2 and sleeper sofa for 2. DVC makes an exception and allows members to bring an aero bed or something for the 5th person but they don't give you extra linens. Your DVC reservation will say 5 people (in writing). No way that they would be making that exception if it was against fire code. The fire department and legal department would be all over them.

DebbieB is absolutely right. There is no way a corporation is going to break fire codes and thus put their insurance coverage on a valuable building at risk. The only way DVC would allow 5 people in a room is if this occupancy is acceptable under the fire codes and its insurance policy. So, if they are doing so, it means five people are permitted.

I'd have to wonder too, about the fire code issue. Even though I've been told by MS at DVC that the one bedroom units only allow four, they will usually add that "Disney doesn't count heads", which to me is intimating that if I wanted to bring more people into the room, it's fine with them. I've not had the experience of them listing five on a ressie though.---Kathy

This is closed - since it appears to be turning into a debate on fire codes and DVC rules -
