Strep Throat :-(

IF I ever get a sore throat again I will be at the doctors soooo fast!
Forgot to mention, if you go too soon, it may not show up on culture. At my pediatrician's, they won't even do a culture unless the child has had a sore throat for a day or two.

Hi guys, I fell asleep after DD left for school and hubby left for work and just woke up, my throat feels a bit better. I don't cry now when I swallow :) I feel so much better then when I started whining at you during the night.

Thanks for letting me vent :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

I am going to try that silk scarf trick, if it does not help at least I'll look wonderfully fashionably in my nightgown! :bride:

I looked at my mouth/throat in the mirror - looks like little abcesses or blisters all over the back of my throat. This is nasty business, this strep thing.

Thanks for your posts! Going to watch Apollo 13 now

Yep..you got it!...you just described my throat....

:grouphug: Glad your feeling a little better.

This is how bad I felt, as soon as I picked up the antibiotics, which was at a Kroger, also bought a bottle of water, then as soon as I hit the car, I had the first dose. I felt better already :)

but I recommend more ice cream just to help :bitelip:

I have some Ben & Jerrys Strawberry Cheese cake Ice Cream :woohoo: but I just don't feel up to it yet. Maybe this afternoon :goodvibes

The good news is, your throat will start feeling drastically better on Antibiotics really soon.
Unlike a cold which goes on and on and on....

A few years ago I had a really bad sore throat that I new had to be Strep because it was unlike any I had ever had and I was running a fever and I never run a fever (I always run low grade fevers so 100 is high for me). I went to Urgent care and they did a throat cullture and said I didn't have strep and sent me home but I new better. A day and a half later I called my doc and he got me in and looked at it and new it was strep, did a culture and sure enough it was. By this point I was so sick and in so much pain that he also gave me some vicodin for the pain which was great cause I couldn't eat or drink (swallow) or sleep so this helped. It took about 48 hours for me to start to get some relief and then for the next four days all was going ok and then my throat started hurting again. I went back to the doctor and the strep was no longer responding to the antibiotic. I never take antibiotics either. So, he gave me something else and this time it worked but it took about a week for the pain to go away. In his opinion he knows that antibiotics should not be given out unless it is absolutely necessary but in my case he felt they should have been given to me that first time I was seen in urgent care as it would have probably cleared up quickly the first time.

Well here I am at 3:30am again, can't sleep feeling lousy. Why does it get worse at night? I was feeling better this evening - and then woke up much worse at 3:30 :sad2: :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

oh...I am so sorry you are still feeling bad. But I also wonder why it gets worse at night.

If I remember right (my mind is sometimes lost :goodvibes ) even though I was feeling better in the day time, it still seemed to take like another week for me to get thru a nights sleep.
I don't know if you Cass or anyone who had Strep, when you would sleep, would you keep waking up cause you felt like you would stop breathing at night?? It was so weird. I would finally nod off then jerk awake trying to breath, it was like my memory was forgetting HOW to breath..ok..that definitely was weird.

I'm staying home from work again today :( I'm pretty well a zombie right now.

My husband has a sore throat and was eyeing my antibiotics - I told him to get his own!!!

Strep usually responds pretty quickly to antibiotics. I wonder if it was something else?
