Street Vendors in MK No Magic Bands Accepted

If the Photo Pass photographers accept MB I see no reason why the street vendors can't. Makes no sense.

I think since there have been a lot of recent changes at WDW, it was not unreasonable for the OP to assume that previously cash-only vendors are now on the magic band. Whether or not Disney specifically states you don't need to carry cash, it is definitely implied in the advertising. Jump all over the over-paid Disney execs, not the regular Disney customer!

Maybe it's a generational thing, but I always carry cash. It is the ONLY thing that is always accepted. Power goes out, cash works; wifi/cable goes, cash is acceptable.

Even if they are outside vendors, I have no idea why they wouldn't want to take credit cards or the like anyway. How much more product do you think they'd sell? Even my technology inept mother finally got a smart phone card reader to take to craft shows. Her sales are so much better now!

Could you let me know where Disney promised you didn't have to carry cash? I saw they said you can use the Magic Band to purchase food and merchandise but they didn't say no cash is needed anymore and they didn't say that you could purchase ALL food and ALL merchandise.

I know it's semantics and we don't carry a lot of cash with us as we have gift cards but each of us has a $20 bill somewhere on us, just in case. It's just my husband and me and I almost always go home with my $20.

I want to know this too...where does it say Disney is cash-free?

Also when you go to the circus or to a professional sporting event, those vendors walking around the stands only take cash. Why should it be different at DW?

The people selling balloons and working carts with glow toys and other things like that are all owned by Disney, they aren't outside vendors. Those are Disney CMs and everything, but they've always been cash only.

I've never bought anything from one of the street vendors, so this is news to me. I would have expected that they would accept the MB. Isn't the whole point of the MB that you spend more money because it's so easy to do? I would be very surprised if the street vendors don't start accepting MB within the year.

Let's all make sure we note that request on our customer response surveys.

These boards remind me there are people crazier and grumpier than me. :cool1:

:lmao::lmao: That one made my afternoon.

I think part of the problem is the technology. They have card readers that the vendors could use, but the bandwidth would mean standing around waiting for the transmission. Have you tried using the internet while there?:confused3 It can be pretty slow and unreliable at times. :scared: All of the MB sites and credit card machines are all hard wired to the servers for transmission. A street vendor does not have that luxury.

With that, we have always carried cash and found out on our first trip as well that they do not take anything but cash. I believe I read or heard it somewhere on the literature that some places may not take the MB and are cash only.

I do think that it's in their best interest to take any and all forms of payment they can. Unfortunately, I think logistics plays a pretty strong role in why they do not. Just a thought.

Carry on!

This is an excellent reminder that the official policy is that Disney reccomends you bring an alternative form off payment, Identification, and any applicable discount cards(AP, TIW, etc). Yes CM say you can just wear the band, and leave that stuff in your room, but that's not the proper procedure and it's poor advice. The idea is that the magic band is convienent to wear and use, but it's necessary to have those back ups in your wallet just in case - or if you elect to visit one of the very few places that don't take that form if payment.

I never bought from the street vendors as they could not take credit cards.

That said I can appreciate that similarly the street vendors will not take Magic Bands.

Just means I get to keep my money :thumbsup2

Those vendors always only took cash. If you are a regular Disney family, would think you would have been aware of that.

Seriously?!

I couldn't even give a remote accurate guess to how much time we have spent in the parks and I didn't know they only took cash.

This knowledge has very little to do with being a "regular" Disney family.

We aren't locals but we have been to Disney 30+ times and I never noticed that the street vendors only took cash. I always carry some with me so when my kids asked for something from a street vendor, I gave them cash because I would not have given them my credit card. Their room keys never had charging privileges.

Count us in as another family of frequent visitors who never knew this-- mostly because we always said no to our kids' requests for balloons and brought our own light-up things. We normally would not have more than $20 cash on us in the parks -- which probably wouldn't have gone too far with the items those vendors sell.

Have you ever bought something from a street vendor at Magic Kingdom?

I'm not sure if it changed or not, but the water parks also had places where you had to use cash and not KTTW or credit cards a while back before MBs.
