So Disney pushes this new magic band and just swipe and pay. Well to our surprise the street vendors during the parades do no take it. How wonderful when you promise your little one they can get something during the parade only to find out they don't take the "use everywhere" magic band, and you don't have enough cash on you because Disney promoted you don't need to carry cash.

The fast pass + and Magic bands were not a hit with this disney regular family. I even mentioned it might be time to give universal a try.

They only take cash. Always have.

I would always advise guests to carry a little cash, no matter what Disney says. For emergencies, or instances like this. Computers break down, too.

I would always carry cash as well, however, this does sort of go against their own advertising.

I think one explanation for that is that merchants like those that sell things like balloons and glow sticks are not Disney employees, but are outside vendors that have a license to sell in the Disney parks. This has nothing to do with magic bands.

Of course, it would also be pretty inconvenient for roving vendors like that to carry card readers.

I agree OP, very annoying. The street vendors are selling these items that are an impulse purchases by nature (like balloons and those light-up things) but then they can't swipe the Magic Band, which is perfect for the impulse buy. And then on top of it only take cash, not even a credit card.

It's Disney. A little cash is not enough... :rotfl2:

Inconvenient for the customers? I don't see how.

Inconvenient for the vendors.

Although it might be kind of amusing to see a balloon vendor trying to hold 50 helium balloons with one arm while trying to juggle an RFID reader and hand the customer his balloon.

Again, I think the fact that at least some of these vendors are not Disney employees is a factor.

I think customer convenience trumps vendor inconvenience. Also, if Disney wanted to, they could of course have every non-Disney vendor accept the magic band. Trivial technology, and if I could sell cokes (or whatever) at Disney for $3 each I'd do whatever they wanted to take magic bands in a heartbeat.

Those vendors always only took cash. If you are a regular Disney family, would think you would have been aware of that.

So you think it's EASIER for a balloon handler to juggle counting CASH and his balloons at the same time?

It IS silly that those street vendors with the light up toys only take cash. It was silly prior to magic bands and it's just as silly now.

Then write to Disney and suggest that their balloon and light up novelty vendors be set up to take other forms of payment than cash. Otherwise, no chance it will change.

Do the street vendors take disney dollars? I am curious because we are giving our kids disney dollars for this trip and I KNOW they will want to buy one of the light up things.

Yeah, they have always only taken cash. We know to keep a bit on us for this stuff and a few snack carts that only take cash (although I think most of those have been converted over now) except a few at the Boardwalk. Still, I can see that it would annoying to guests who didn't know that.

You've always had to have cash for the vendors. I learned that one the hard way on my first trip when DD wanted a balloon and all I had was my KTTW and $1 in my pocket. It would be great if you could use a Magic Band to charge to your room at a street vendor. And maybe by the end of testing they'll give the vendors an iPod touch with a reader attached. But I wouldn't hold my breath.

Could you let me know where Disney promised you didn't have to carry cash? I saw they said you can use the Magic Band to purchase food and merchandise but they didn't say no cash is needed anymore and they didn't say that you could purchase ALL food and ALL merchandise.

I know it's semantics and we don't carry a lot of cash with us as we have gift cards but each of us has a $20 bill somewhere on us, just in case. It's just my husband and me and I almost always go home with my $20.

There are now little readers that vendors can attach to a clipboard or just carry in their pockets. We were at a convention recently where vendors were using these. They're only about an inch.

These boards remind me there are people crazier and grumpier than me. :cool1:

Yes, but don't you need to use wifi for the transactions? We all know how the wifi works at WDW! lol.

I agree with the OP. It's an inconvenience and they should start taking the MB.
