Friend: I'm trading in my E-520 (Olympus) for a Canon 50D

Me: Why?

Friend: Photographers in my class say I have to shoot with Canon or Nikon to have street cred.

Me: Whatever!!

Oh well since I use Olympus as well, guess I'll never be considered a serious photographer on the street.

Hahahah... seriously... I have heard this many times from intro students. Noobs.

Any photographer whose opinion I'd be interested in won't care about the equipment I use, just the final image.

Agreed!! :thumbsup2

Good photographers are judged by the quality of their photographs, not by the gear that they use. That said, if I was pursuing a career in photography, I'd stick with Nikon or Canon.

I was on a photo walk a few months ago and had a Nikon user breaking my chops the whole time. I am a Pentax user and love it! After the walk we all went to a local bar to look at everybody’s picture on a big screen. Everybody was waiting to see both are shots and when it was over I made him look bad and everybody told him! He was using a D700 to. So sometime what you are using means nothing if you don’t have and eye for it! So I have learned to not care what type of camera you are using a long as you shooting.

I guess we can commiserate together, Joe. I'm not giving up my Olympus.;)

The same can be said about lenses... a small, fast prime can often beat a giant zoom (especially in low light, since you can have a faster shutter speed & less blur), but nobody will be impressed by a small prime on your camera. :)

When I saw that announcement about the D7000 I immediately thought of you.
