Hello,

Was watching a tips video that talked about bringing your own cup and a little dish soap for free soda. My question is do I need to bring my own straws, too, or do they have straws available.

Thank you

They have straws at the soda fountains. BTW, you shouldn't fill your refillable cup directly from the machine. You should use a paper cup to fill your cup.

You don't need cups or straws. Both available at the free drink stations near the pools and in the buffet. The only reason to bring your own cup is if you prefer it to a paper cup.

We bring our own large Tervis tumblers for more drink at once. So because of the size, we also bring lids and straws to fit them

We do the same. Also helps keep it all cold while laying out by the pool or on the beach. (I can also leave a little room to pour in some rum or vodka to spice up my drink if necessary)

If I had to guess, I'd say those were 12 oz cups. Aren't there plastic (non-paper) cups in Cabanas? They might be a bit bigger, but they don't have a lid.

In Cabanas they have "real" glasses (well, plastic, not glass), not paper cups, so no lids:

I'm not sure of the size of those (there are two sizes - juice and regular). But here's a shot of a table with the bigger glass on it (BTW this was how it was left when they were done):

Yes, the cups in Cabanas (the buffet) are plastic. And no lids. They're obviously intended for use in that facility (or the tables right outside on the deck), though I'm sure some people take them elsewhere and just expect the crew to retrieve them and get them back to the dining area.

The drink station has straws but they're strange. They're cardboard or some recycled material or used to be anyway. They work good just a little weird.

It depends. We had those on Wonder on our NYE cruise. The next two, on Fantasy and Magic, they were the old plastic ones. Maybe the paper ones were leftover from cruising in Alaska. They were the same used in Animal Kingdom. I guess they are safer for wildlife.

We had those for like the first 2 days of our TA cruise last year. Then they had plastic ones.

Maybe they were experimenting with the straws that are cellulose and are biodegradable? We have an entire line-up of biodegradable utensils and plates (and straws) that feels just a little "off".

This would be my guess. Sea World did the same thing. At least at 1 point. Drinks didn't have lids and the straws were some kind of paper. I remember seeing a sign somewhere that explained it but it had to do with the wildlife and trash that might end up in a pool.

Oh man, those straws are like nails to a chalk board, or chewing aluminum foil for me - can not stand them in my mouth. I know they are better for the environment, but yuck :)

Thanks everyone! Plan is bring my own straws and cups. Use their cup to fill mine. Great comments! Thank you!
