We are headed to Stratton Vermont in early January (Mid Week). Other than skiing, can anyone suggest any other activities to do? We are going mid week. It appears that the sleigh rides and dog sled rides etc seem to be offered only on the weekends.

Also, if anyone has any suggestions for dining we would certainly appreciate it. We are going with out kids and are not looking for fine gourmet dining.

DIS members have always been so helpful in the past. We have found so many great places to go based on your suggestions.

Thanks!
Merry Christmas to all!

Hi!

Stratton is our "home" mountain & we spend every winter weekend there! Lucky to have a family house up there! This winter I'm staying with my kids for all Jan & Feb and have enrolled them in school up there! Going in 4 days can't wait!

Ok, for dining…. If you are staying in or near the village, we eat lunch or dinner at Grizzlys, which is the upstairs bar-restaurant above the base lodge. Mid week they have great beer specials & a pretty big menu. We love their nachos!

The Fire Tower restaurant & tavern is new this year, but have heard nothing but good things about it! Can't wait to try it out!

Verde is a typical upscale dinner place, won;t eat here b/c it's too pricy. Mulligans pub is ok, but the firepower is basically the same food

Off mountain, I'd drive down to the town of Manchester for most of the dining. We love Zoe's double hex restaurant. All delicious and very reasonable! The perfect wife is good too, have heard to eat in the bar area tho b/c it is the same food and much cheaper!

In the town of Londonderry ( where we are ) there's Jakes, which is your basic tavern food with amazing pizza! The new American Grill is also good. Londonderry is the only area town outside of Manchester with a full grocery store ( IGA ) Farm to table is an AMAZING foodie type restaurant, all organic farm to table food with all local sourced things. It's in an old farmhouse, very cozy.

For things to do outside of skiing, Stratton has a tube park - not sure about weekday hours tho. Taylor Farm in Londonderry also has sleigh rides and is a eco-farm, where you can roam the grounds all by yourself & check out the friendly animals. In Manchester there is Riley Rink for ice skating where they have open public skating ( rileyrink.com )

I will say tho that after a full day of skiing, you and your kids SHOULD be wiped OUT!! We manage 40-50+ days each season, and are absolutely exhausted after each day!!!!

HAVE FUN! and let me know if you have any more questions!!

Wow! Thank you so much! This is exactly what I was looking for. I appreciate taking the time to give us these pointers.

Getting excited to go. Hope you enjoy your time up there and have a Merry Christmas!

I second the vote for Grizzlys, always had excellent food there.

I would also recommend checking out Hot Glass Works at the base of Stratton in Jamaica, VT... They have showroom at 3819 Main St Route 30...
all hand blown glass made by a husband and wife team. It's a really fun place and sell very reasonably priced glass coins that are beautiful and might make a fun souvenir!

Have a blast, I love Stratton!

We don't ski but stayed there this summer and most places were closed lol :) We went kayaking and to the waterfalls. The area is beautiful in the summer!

Does anyone have any suggestions of where to go for breakfast or are we better off stopping at a supermarket?

I LOVE Stratton! I stink at skiing and snowboarding and it was still fun when I went. We checked out the basement bar in the resort and it was tons of fun, very relaxing. Just walking around at night was so peaceful. We are from Jersey and drove about 15 miles to find the nearest diner...I forget what the name was but it was pretty good!

I know I am no help but just wanted to share my love for Stratton :)

Thank you to all for the great advice. We went to Stratton last week and survived the frigid temps. It got down to -3° one evening (Wind chill made it -25°)

We ate at Mulligans which was good. We also tried Fire Tower which was very good and had a nice atmosphere. Also really liked Grizzly's but because we were there mid week, the kitchen closed at 3:30 and couldn't go there for dinner.

Took a ride to Manchester and the Vermont Country Store in Weston. Lots of fun to look around. Very much enjoyed Zoey's Double Hex Restaurant.

Waffle Cabin is amazing!!!!

Thanks again to everyone!! :)
