I am going to have to buy at least one of the cups/mugs from Trader Sam's! What method do you use to make sure things you pack make it home form the airport in one piece? I bet someone has a great tip

We buy mugs every time we go. They wrap them really well in the gift shops and then we wrap a tshirt or something around it when we put it in the suitcase. So far, nothing has broken.

If you pay Disney to ship it for you, they will replace it if it breaks.

That said, I'm a cheapskate so I do it myself. They do an awesome job of wrapping it and I haven't lost one yet. I just make sure it's deep within my suitcase when I pack.

You could also try putting it in your carry-on so you have more control, but I usually have enough other stuff so I put it in my checked bag.

I ALWAYS bring a mug home or an ornament or something of the likes. Tell them to pack it to go into luggage and they'll wrap it in paper and then they usually have a sort of cardboard-ish wrap that they use and sometimes...they'll have boxes. I also wrap it in a bag and then put it in towards the middle of my luggage so it has padding.

Good Luck!

But if you ship it, you avoid paying the local tax.

Net effect, part of your shipping cost is 'paid for' by avoiding local sales tax.

I also believe there is no shipping charge over $50(?).

I have my items shipped.

I have never, in four times, received a broken glass or mug.

The CMs will wrap your mug realy well. I would pack a few sheets of bubble wrap for extra assurance. On the other hand, I had my Arribas Bros hand blown glass Mickey vase shipped and it went really well.

I've brought mugs and other breakables home. We wrap it very carefully in some clothing (usually T-shirts or other shirts) and keep it in a carry on with us. We typically make sure there are things that pad it around it so no one messing in the overhead bin pushing on our carry one will damage it. We have not had anything break yet. Taking some bubble wrap with you is a great idea- we may have to try that.

We carry on our breakables.

Not Disney related, but last year we got an amazing deal on Yankee Candles at our local outlet store, so we bought a bunch as Christmas gifts and used the smallest roller bag from our luggage set to get them home for the holidays. One they were given as gifts, we put the empty roller within the larger roller and packed around/inside it as usual.

Excellent advice I had no idea they would pack things like that although I will bring bubble wrap since I am buying from the bar not a shop

I used Rubber Maid shoe boxes for misc. stuff. On the way back, I put the breakables in the box and wrap with bath towels. I always make sure I put other things in the box to make sure nothing move around.

In my opinion, Disney do a great job in packing breakables. Just as a reminder, water globe have to be check in. I returned 2 xmas water globe ornaments from Disney Cruise at the Disney Store in MCO. Stupid me, I totally forgot about shipping them home in the moment of panic.

I bet you could take it into your resort gift shop and they would wrap it for you. That crinkled paper stuff they use is awesome. I even brought home very fragile Christmas ornaments wrapped in it.

Another vote for Disney shipping. My parents had some ornaments shipped home and some were broken when the package arrived. They sent all new ones and told them to keep the old

Another vote for Disney shipping. Many years ago, we shipped a gift from the Japan pavilion to Texas that had very many breakable parts (it was a glass tree with a lot of branches). We worried how many pieces it would arrive in, but it was so well wrapped it took nearly an hour to get all the wrapping off. Even though you would be at a bar, it also has a gift shop so they may offer shipping. Wouldn't hurt to ask.

If I think I'm going to be buying breakables, I pack a small roll of bubble wrap in a carry on suitcase and then wrap them (or if they're wrapped really well by the CM, I just line the suitcase with them and tuck it around them) in the bubble wrap. I always do this for cruises as any kind of protective wrap isn't always guaranteed

Forgot to say that I always carry it with me on the plane. If we're driving, I make sure it's packed on top in the trunk or safely in the back seat if we have room.
