strategy for booking two rooms at the same time

Hi everyone! We have been discussing future travel plans and are considering taking some family with us. However, we would go at a potentially difficult to book time and would need two studios due to the number of beds needed. Since I can only book one room at a time, I am afraid that by the time I am through with booking the first studio, there won't be a second one left to book.

So, my question is as follows: My partner is an associate on my account. Is it possible that both of us get started with the booking process at 8 am (obviously on two separate computers) and each grab one studio? I don't see any reason why this would not work?

I am aware that even with the availability tool showing availability this might mean that only one studio is left over. But if there are more than one, I don't want to wait the 10 minutes or so that it takes me to complete the first reservation.

Also, both rooms would have different names on the reservation as one is for us and the other for other family members. I did a search and found a lot of threads about having the same name on both reservation, this will not be an issue for us.

It would be great if anyone has experience with this and can tell me if my plan could work. Otherwise me might try to do a trial booking before.

Do you have separate credentials to log into the website? Using the same login will not work. The system is smart enough to invalidate any other session and only allow one room to be booked at a time under one account.

It's funny this came up this morning. I'm just trying to figure this out myself. If you book one, and then there is nothing left for the second can you wait list the second one? I've never used the wait list. DH and I do not have seperate accounts to log on with, although we are both members. We have always used 1 account.

Yes. You can waitlist the second. Or book a different room and still waitlist the second. Or even book a different room, check to see if a second room is available at that resort, then cancel the first and book two rooms at the second. Remember, only banking and borrowing are irreversible; you can always cancel.

I have never tried to make simultaneous reservations but I question whether that would work. Regardless of having two different names making a reservation, it would still be an attempt to make two simultaneous reservations in the single member account using the same contracts that the single member has, and I do not see how the system will let you lock in one reservation, where you get to the page that shows all points available and you choose contracts to use, and also allows the other person to do the same. If allowed, both would be showing the same total points are available and both reservers would be choosing the same points because points are not officially used until a reservation is completed. I assume if that is tried at least one of the reservations will be kicked out at some point before it is completed.

Yes, we both have separate accounts.

Good point. I guess we will need to do a trial booking to see what happens.

I never even considered having separate accounts for myself and DH. Since we are married and have only one contract we only use one account. If this works for booking two rooms, maybe I should get my own account. But we still only have one contract, so I don't know if this would work anyway. It seems like it would give an error if the system was trying to pull points out of the same account for 2 reservations at the same time. Then it might just tie up the whole process resulting in missing out on both rooms.

Well, for us it is different as I am the member and he is only an associate. When I registered him as associate he got an ID to go online and he just used his general My Disney Experience account to connect that with DVC.

If we end up trying it, I will definitely report back!

Thanks! I actually have a lot of time to figure something out. We are planning on October 2017. BWV is our home resort, so I'm afraid booking multiple standard view studios for October will be impossible. We are going to have to have a plan B.

If you have enough points, I would book one room the day before and then the next day book the 2nd room. Adjust the check in date later on the first reservation.

I agree with this.
Book one room for up to seven days, on the 16th.
Book the other room for up to then number of days you want -1, on the 17th.
Then call MS at 9:00, to cancel off the 16th from the first reservation and use those points to add-on the last night of the 2nd reservation.
Once you have both reservations the way you want them, add in to both reservation a "Travel with" notation of the other reservation along with any special requests (IE: be near each other, be on opposite ends of the resort, etc).

Unfortunately I don't think I will have enough points for it. But this is a great idea and might think about it.

That is a great strategy! I might think about this. The problem is that I am looking at a non home-resort reservation, so that last night could vanish. But I think the last night be the one least in demand, so it could work.

Also thanks for the tip with the 'travel with' notation!

For someone looking for two standard BWV studios in Oct and assuming you have the 11 month window, the actual solution takes work, is criticized by some, but others do it. Start booking the rooms for the periods you want with a start date of about Sep 23 when you are likely to get both rooms and then walk them both to where you want to be in Oct.

I think my problem doing that would be that my use year is October. So I was planning on using my leftover 2016 points and 2017 points for an October 2017 trip. So I don't think I could do that starting in September. We aren't picky which week we go, but my family wants to go during food and wine.

Yes, having an October use year prevents walking as early as Sep, but if you are considering it, you should start looking to see if you can begin walking as early in Oct as you might find the two rooms open (or find one and start walking it and then another day hopefully find the other room and start also walking that one.

Do you think I would still need to do that if I only book one standard view studio, and we go ahead and use more points on a pool/garden view for the second studio. We originally wanted to save points, but we do have more we can use.

The issue you can have, and what existed for this year for Oct, with BWV standard studios is that many of the days can disappear daily quickly at 8 a.m. 11 months out, and once in a while even the next day goes before you even get to its 11 month window. In essence, what happens is that some succeed and some don't 11 monhts out from their desired arrival date and it often depends on whose computer at 8 a.m. communicates faster with Disney's. You might wait until 11 months out from your desired start date but you could lose the race; thus you may want to start trying to book somewhat before your desired time and then keep trying daily and see if you can get a date and start walking because that just gives you some additional chances to get your desired arrival date.

If you get the reservation for less than 7 days on the 17th, then no one else (except those with 11 month HRs advantage) can book your room for any period of time until the booking period reopens on the 7 month availability open.
Example:
You are wanting two reservations for Oct 17th - Oct 21st.
On the 16th at 08:00 you book Oct 16 - Oct 22th.
On the 17th at 08:00 you book Oct 17th - Oct 20th, no one except those with 11 month advantage can book the 21st until 7 month booking window opens. Most 11 month booking people have already made their reservations, unless they are planning a last minute trip.
On the 17th at 09:00, you call MS, cancel the Oct 22nd, from the 16th reservation and use those point to add on Oct 21st to the reservation you booked earlier that day.
