I am not a DVC member but I was thinking this might help other who are...

As the points cost are far higher for Friday and Saturday, many people will probably book Sun - Thurs only, particularly U.S. based guests who have less travel costs.

So, you could book at 7 months out exactly from the Friday (when not many people will be booking at the higher points) for, say, 7 nights. Then, you could always cancel the first two (Fri / Sat) nights if you later decide the points are too high.

Is this possible?

Possible, and unfortunately, quite common practice. The Points were made higher at the weekends to discourage Floridians from using DVC as a weekend retreat.

I think it's fairly safe to say that, if it's possible, someone somewhere will have come up with a way of 'working the system'! ;)

The old way of being able to make reservations 7 or 11 months from your check-out date was supposed to prevent anyone with enough points booking as far ahead as possible of their check-in date, and then cancelling the dates they didn't need. I guess that inevitably led to people calling for day-to-day bookings and tying up Member Services, and that's why we now have the new system.
