Strategies for room upgrades?

Never tried to get a room upgrade before. Will be staying at PBH in a Deluxe 2-queen Dec 16-19. I am a Loews First member but only at the blue level.

How do room upgrades work? Do they offer them at a price differential that is less than what the price difference would be when booking them through regular means? Is there an art to asking for them?

Thanks in advance

generally speaking for the 3 hotels, if you want to be upgraded to club, it usually will be an additional $100 per night.

there are time periods where the hotels are at a low occupancy level and free upgrades do happen then.
book a standard room get a pool view upgrade free.

those upgrades are common.

in a busy season when the hotels are at a high occupancy, upgrades are a hit and miss.

if you are checking in during the week, the chances are greater it seems.
weekends seem to fill up most of the time so not as great of a chance on the free upgrades then.

you never know if you can get a free upgrade until you start to check in and ask.

if you booked a standard view, you could ask the TM if there are any pool/park views available.

since you plan to stay at pbh, it would be pool view you could get.
if you booked a deluxe 2 Q, i don't know what the upgrade would be that you are seeking. (are you wanting the pull out couch in your room or a balcony/patio?)

if you read thru the pbh thread/sticky, you will read on the upgrades peeps recieved. you might get better clues from those posts.

i have stayed at all 3 onsite hotels but only once at pbh.
it's not my fave so i didn't return there.

nothing bad about the hotel but i wanted to be closer to citywalk and ioa.
at rph it's only a 5 minute walk for me to citywalk or at hrh a short walk to the studios.
