I know the basics, arrive early and ask at guest services, but I also know that Concierge are usually unavailable. Is there a way to know in advance if an upgrade is possible? Will going on the DCL website the night before and checking if there is a concierge room still for sale be accurate? Any tips/advice would be appreciated.

As far as I know, no way of knowing in advance. We sailed on the Fantasy in February and were able to upgrade to concierge at the port. We later found out we had gotten the room of a family who had upgraded to a one bedroom. Another family we met in concierge was on a B2B and had upgraded from a one bedroom to one of the Royal Suites! So availability does move around.

As you said, be one of the first at the port and head straight down to the supervisors desk to inquire.

All cruise details such as rooms and making reservations for Palo and port adventures closes down 3 days before the sailing.
You are no longer able to pull up your reservation.

Typically you have to check into your normal room first then bring your KTTW cards with you to the supervisors desk.

Correct, but you can check the available rooms with 3 days to go and have a pretty good idea if there will be any rooms to upgrade. If all the rooms are gone, there wont be any sliding around unless someone doesnt make the ship.

Also, they will have a sign up at the check-in counter if there is no possibility of an upgrade.

Something like "Captain Mickey says that the sailing is full and no upgrades are available" or something close.

If you upgrade at the port is the room cheaper than if you had booked it three days before sailing?

We were able to upgrade to a Cat V at the port and we later learned that the room was available because a family cancelled last minute when their child got sick. Sometimes you just luck out.

@FSU Girl, It is cheaper to upgrade at the port than to book in advance. There is a grid they use to determine the price of the upgrade and it depends on the type of room you had booked originally. For us the upgrade was $600 from a Cat 4C to a Cat V for a four night on the Dream.

Interesting thanks! We might consider doing that for a future cruise.

You can access the DCL website and look at rooms available up to 3 days out, as was was previously mentioned. That will help you will know what is available. Be aware that count may change for a few different reasons.

- People may upgrade before port day. You can purchase the upgrade ahead of time but there is no discount.

- Someone may purchase a stateroom after the website closes. Having asked, if someone calls DCL they can still book directly up to the last 24-48 hours. They said the passenger manifest needs to be submitted 24 hours before departure.

- It also is very uncommon but Disney can “pixie dust” and give complementary upgrades. Although very rare, they do happen. We heard about some “pixie dust” upgrades for one of our cruises via another social media group specific to our cruise.

There is a thread on port upgrades and it details the category booked and that moving too along with the costs. Pay attention to the dates as the costs to upgrade are evolving. To go from a Cat 5 to a Cat T for the 7 day is now $4000.

Get to the port as soon as the door open and go to the upgrade desk in the far left by the castaway club member check in. They will tell you what is available for upgrade. It is far cheaper.

could only get an 11:30 Port Arrival time. Gonna try and show up right at 10:30 and pull this off anyway.
