Strangest way you've funded your DVC?

Just curious -- any of you get creative in funding your DVC purchases? (new credit cards, selling off stock or the prized milk cow, lots and lots of yard sales, a special savings account, a pickle jar full of pennies, etc.)

Also -- any strange accounts of how you persuaded reluctant family members to "go DVC" or buy more DVC?

I was getting really bummed about this whole termite thing :( putting the stops on my add-on, and dh was really holding out on the add-on idea anyway. My less-and-less subtle suggestions seemed to meet with no response. I'm not the type to just purchase something like that without him, so that wasn't an option. I knew he had his reasons (all good ones), but it doesn't mean I liked any of them! Man, was I depressed. Depressed and getting desperate, especially as I watch those BWV points get eaten up.

HOWEVER -- as luck would have it, a realllllly bad day at work, followed by a nice dinner out with friends, and I couldn't believe it -- tonight dh actually suggested a way for me to fund it, pronto! (And in seriousness, too , with a real plan for freeing up the cash from some of our investments, as opposed to me knitting sweaters for hairless dogs and sellin' them on eBay...) Can it be true? I can actually have our add-on after all? Oh YAY! I'm ditchin' my cruise-shipping guide and callin' DVC as soon as possible. I'm smilin' just think' about it.

Too bad for dh, though.... my next, final desperate attempt after the dog sweaters was to offer whatever I had left (namely, me ;) and a few pieces of yarn...). But hey, if this all goes through, and we get our pts, I'll be so appreciative, I'll throw that part in as a bonus magical beginnings program of our own! :smooth:

refinanced the house, took from retirement, worked, put remaining balance on Disney Visa and just paid that off
our 5yr loan became a less than 1.5yr loan

I sold my Disney stock in 1992 to buy into DVC. They told me not to consider DVC as an investment, but I bought points at $52 per point ($84 now). Disney stock has stayed just about where it was in 1992.

Cindy,
I got such a kick out of your post!:D I'm really glad you're gonna get your add-on!

Here's an interesting thing we discovered in our quest to fund DVC. We stumbled upon it completely by accident. We called the folks at Bank One to ask about a balance transfer to our Disney Visa and she actually gave us the option of just depositing the money into our checking account to use however we liked. It was essentially a "here you go, how much do you want, it's free for 6 months" transaction! Cost us nothing, showed up in our checking account in 3 days and we pay nothing on it until October! Gotta love that!

Ours was paid for from my husbands bonus check.

It isn't exactly creative financing.

We did take out a home equity loan briefly, because the bonus check arrived a little after closing.

We just charged BCV on our Disney Visa. We will pay it off pronto thanks to Uncle Sam (we are getting a pretty good return this year!) and a couple of really big overtime checks from my hubby's job!! He is doing a consulting gig and making an hourly rate. Those 100 hour weeks seem more tolerable when we know that the extra $ is paying for our DVC!!! Not very creative I know, but we had been thinking about DVC for about a year before buying. We didn't really want to finance and now we don't have to!! Anyway, I can't knit!!! Lacee

Great post LOL!

We just put the points for add on on disney visa, and I myself am trying to find a creative way to pay it off asap. I just sold back my vacation time(was going to expire anyway) so that will take a small bite, I am picking up overtime here and there, I paid off my entire 460 total other points by re-fi cash out, we still have equity left, but our payments are a bit lower with the lower intrest rates, and we considered the points a wash.(we would have spent that money anyway on hotel stays)

I have 0 intrest until sept when I will either transfer any bal to a home line or another card with 0 intrest and just keep chipping away at the bal until it can be paid off by next tax season .

I turned my hobby of candlemaking into a profitable business and use the funds to pay down my 10 yr loan. Hoping to have it paid off in another year and a half. Not bad for joining in 2002.
I was also able to add on an additional 25 points with cash just from saving change for a year.

Originally DH said no way to DVC until I convinced him that I could pay off the loan quickly with my candle sales. Neither of us like to be in debt and we never had to dip into our savings. 50 of our 200 original points were a gift from our daughter for our anniversary, I have since paid her back out of the profits since she's house hunting!

Life is good:)
