Strangest thing youve purchased on holiday...

Last trip i bought back all new kitchen stuff as our new kitchen had just been fitted so we needed new things of course! Bought back 2 frying pans, spatulas, egg timer, spoon rest, etc and a whistling kettle for the stove!

Pressed penny's from all the parks , i've no idea why we or should i really say I thought it was good idea to collect them. :goodvibes i think thats the worst thing brought

Oh we do that too! Actually I really like collecting them but it's not like we do anything with them when we get back. And I will be hunting for more on our next trip too. Silly thing is I have no record of which ones we have so I am sure there are plenty of duplicates. Clearly I am not a "serious" collector! :lmao:

My downfall is carrier bags I treat them as if they are as precious as the souvenirs that I've bought - I just can't throw them away. I've got various sized WDW bags from 1998, 2002, 2005 and 2009.

Oh don't even go there! Not just the plastic ones - any bags. Those plastic ones you get in the shops .... well my habits are quite bizarre with them. As soon as I am out of the shop I carefully take the purchases out and put them into my backpack. Then VERY carefully fold the bags so they don't get crumpled :scared: I could not begin to tell you how many I have in the loft, in the kitchen cupboard, in a box in the hall cupboard, in the avalanche cupboard :lmao: Funny thing is I HATE plastic bags and always take my own decent shoppers with me at home. :confused3

And then there are those reusable/canvas bags too. Since I know I am not going to USE the plastic ones I buy the nicer ones too. Often because I have too much shopping to carry, or as Kenny said, they have those incentives and I find myself rummaging around to spend enough to buy the bag ......

from elsewhere, a string of skull beads carved from human bones (again, why did i buy them)[/QUOTE]

How funny:rotfl2:

We tend to have a build up of Maps aswell, god knows why we have them, but under the stairs there are maps, paper-place mats from restaurants and even a menu from Hooters!

Ooh, I'd forgotten about the maps. I've got mint condition ones as souvenirs but I've also kept the tatty, scribbled on ones that bring a bunch of memories flooding back. (One year DS tried to collect a copy of each of the maps in Japanese - I don't know if he still has them as it won't be me that throws them away.)

When i was younger I used to enjoy confusing my grandparents in Disney by handing them Japanese Maps.....looking back it was cruel but quite funny!!!

Carrier bags, maps, hotel brochures etc are my weaknesses too - I have loads stored away. Also, I always bring back sweets which look great over there but not so good when you find them halfway down your case whilst unpacking! Keyrings are another thing I always seem to buy - they're so cute but I only have one set of keys so they end up just being stored.
The one thing I look at and think "why?" is we went to this place called Tarpon Springs near Clearwater (which is famous for sponge production) and we bought a figure made out of sponge - not only is it plain ugly but it's arm has since dropped off - really need to dump it, but it looks such a sorry sight that I can't bear to!!

Not a purchase but I have a tendancy to 'collect' the different menus from everywhere we go - even the ones that are hard back or leather bound and probably aren't meant for the 'take-away' scene. :rolleyes1
The one from NBA is especially impressive with a cover made from an old basketball :woohoo:
I have a box full of them upstairs and they have made nice memory joggers in the past.

The mind boggles at how you manage to sneek out a hard backed menu :rotfl:

When I started reading your post I wondered if you always took a newpaper in for dinner  but when I got to the hard backed part I realised I have to ask what you take with you for smuggling the wares out the door ...

As per my quesion above :lmao:

We almost always have a back pack with us when we go out - kids stuff and cameras - that comes in very handy :thumbsup2

Plus to be honest we have found that a lot of the places are happy to let you take one if you ask nicely :goodvibes

...Underwear and socks.

Guess what I forgot to pack before leaving the UK? :Teeth:

On the plus side, the socks were actually really good quality considering they were a '10 for $5' buy at Walmart... and a few pairs are still alive and well!

What a cool thing to collect. I'd be interested to hear how you shaffled a leather bound menu out the door too :rotfl::rolleyes1

I'm another one who hoards park maps, tickets, wrist bands, receipts, nakpins, pressed pennies, badges... - some of them even make their way into my scrapbook pages (which is my rational for collecting them in the first place) ;)

Kenny Looks like a new trend being started with the menu's. :lmao:

:lmao: Your post really got me! I see the smiley you inserted doesn't (or not on here anyway) show as a little picture - it just says "Teeth". So at the end of your question ..... it looked like you forgot to pack teeth :rotfl2:

I might give it a go. I should probably try the ask nicely approach though, as in my line of work I do not think that boasting about a caution for lifting something (albeit a piece of paper) would go down too well :rolleyes1

Ha! Must have been the security scanner that ruined them! You should have made a claim :lmao:

I just remembered (having had a laugh about the teeth which actually turned out to be socks and underwear) I also had to make an emergency underwear shopping expedition. I didn't forget to pack them though. I was standing idly staring at the carousel waiting for my luggage and at random intervals lingerie items would appear amongst the cases. Until eventually I realised "Hey, those are my knickers!" :scared1: Looked like the business end of a forklift had gone through my case.

To this day I don't use hardshell suitcases if I can help it.

OMG that is so funny :lmao:

It reminds me of the time I forgot which case I had packed the sat nav in, and during the course of my rummagings DWs underwear was laid out on display in MCO car park. Not something she was too chuffed about, and had the potential to ruin the start of the holiday :rolleyes1
