Strangest Interactions With Other Guests?

People running to an attraction mystify me. Why run, especially at rope drop, when there really aren't that many people and you could risk slipping because everything is so wet. We were getting to the Expedition Everest ride and everybody was just blowing past us. The best part was a dad who was screaming at his kids to hurry up (they were apparently lolly gagging behind) when he hit a wet patch and went down hard. My DH and I just shook our heads. Luckily, he wasn't hurt, but he could have been. Just a side note: we got to the ride behind all the crazy runners and walked on not once, but three times!

Jaded Mom: "The rest of this place is just walking around, there are movies but we can watch those on youtube."

Oh... oh... oh...

Who knows, maybe this woman had nine laptops arranged in a circle or her own robot Ben Franklin?

Then she takes her kids Duffy drawing on a stick and starts waving it saying, "I'm Duffy! They just invented me to make more money!"

OK, Jaded Mom isn't all bad. That is pretty hilarious. :lmao:

During the most recent visit, I traded pins with -- well, they were very definitely pin traders, that's for darn sure! They each focused on one favorite movie/theme/whatever. And they were dressed to that theme. For example, the "Tron" collector wore Tron mouse ears, a neon blue shirt with black pants and glow-in-the-dark "jewelry", and three(!?!) pin lanyards packed with nothing but the Grid and it's residents. I felt like I'd warped into Boston Comicon somehow; these ladies would have got alone swell with the teenager I saw there once wearing everything Pokemon-themed. It was awesome, but also kind of disconcerting...

This isnt too strange but there was a family in back of me when i was in line for the ride in Norway. First i hear the mom say "the rest of this place is just walking around, there are movies but we can watch those on youtube. I just thought why would you spend the money to go to Disney and skip stuff because you can watch it on youtube.

I'm thinking she was referring to the movies in China and the other counties. For most people they don't consider them real attractions. Hey I haven't seen them since the first time I went to Epcot 11 years ago. You know circle vision was a big deal 35 years ago not so much now.

You also have to factor in the "educational" aspect of the films. No one wants to think they are being taught to on a vacation.

We call that "Wrong Mommy Syndrome" around here...:) I always think it's sweet and a little funny when you see the look on their face.

I encountered a lady who must have been encountering "wrong daughter syndrome" at Epcot a few years ago! :rotfl:

I felt a hand on my shoulder and an out of breath lady said "I've been chasing you all through this queue!" When I turned around, her face was a picture - she thought I was her daughter. Apparently we were the same height, wearing the same outfit, had the same hair style/colour and had toddlers with us of the same age! The lady was mortified, and after I got over the shock of being grabbed and scolded, I found it pretty funny. After that, DH & I spent the rest of our day at Epcot looking for my doppelganger. :upsidedow

There's also the fact that certain guests can't stand waiting in line for anything that isn't a ride, which in itself is honestly silly of them. There are also people who can't admit to liking anything that isn't a ride they've been convinced to experience. :confused3

In 1998, while DH and I were on our honeymoon, we had a very weird encouter at the Studios. We were sitting on the curb waiting for the fireworks show that used to be set off behind the Great Movie ride, and this older lady came up and sat down between us. It was not crowded so there was plenty of room on either side of us. Since this was our honeymoon, we were sitting close together, she almost sat on DH until he moved. Her family came along and she left.

Well gosh, that's just not true. My wife and I LOVE "being taught to on vacation." Learning things about the various countries is pretty much the whole point of the World Showcase and the major reason we enjoy it so much. (In fact, I dearly miss many of the old Future World attractions that were less thrill rides and more educational, like Spaceship Earth still is.)

I respect that you don't want to be taught while you're on vacation, but it would be a mistake to assume that's true for everyone else.

On our first (and only so far) trip to WDW, we got stuck on Test Track. It was right near where you go up the inclines. We were trying to keep our kids calm since we were behind them in the car, when we see a large line of people headed down the inclines to us. All of the sudden they start breaking out in song "Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work we go . . ." These guests sure made waiting and climbing out of Test Track WAY more fun! :goodvibes

Isn't it fun having a doppleganger? I have a few just in my town. I picked DS up at daycare and the lady at the desk asked how I could get out of work so early since her husband couldn't get out till much later. I told her, unless her husband was Gay he didn't work with me. The expression on her face was priceless. ( I am a hairdresser & at the time the only guy working there was Gay. )
Another time I went to the Post Office to get stamps. The lady wanted to know what I did with the roll I had bought that morning. She even called a co-worker up and he said yeah she was in this morning, but she had on a different coat.:rolleyes1 Haven't been able to find out who these people thought I was.

The majority of the time I would totally agree with you.

The one exception to this for us was a few years ago at DL when the new Finding Nemo submarine ride opened. That is a SLOW loading and moving ride and there were no FP's. So, yes we were at rope drop and did the "power walk" along with the CM's and other guests. We got in the 2nd sub of the day. You should have seen how long the line behind us was with the slower rope drop people BEFORE we even got on our sub.

A couple of years ago, I had booked 'Dinner with and Imagineer' at the Wilderness Lodge for my 18DS and me. We spent the day at DAK, left the rest of the family behind and headed out by Disney Bus to our reservation at WL. The nice air conditioned bus ride was just long enough to catch a little shut eye rest on the ride over.

So we got to WL a little ahead of schedule, checked in at the desk, then stepped next door for a drink at the bar to wait to be called. As we sat down, I recognized an older couple that had been on the bus ride from DAK with us. The gentleman motioned for us to come over and join them. We did and he pulled out his cel phone, opened it up and shared a picture with us. Earlier, he had taken a picture of us on the bus, eyes closed, heads tipped back, mouths wide open, napping on our bus ride. We shared a laugh, a drink and some fun conversation before heading off to our reservation.

Good folks.

I wasn't speaking so much for my self but the specific situation. Though I guess I would see the films again, but its not like a ride that you would go on over and over.

When we first arrived in the world in 2010 we ran into Newlyweds! It was (at least to me) wonderful and so that set the tone of a fabulous vacation.

Best ever...
We were at ToT and sitting next to a 5 year old girl and her mother. My (at the time) DB and I ran into this girl and her mother father, and sister at Downtown Disney later that same day. They were actually staying at the same resort (CBR). The little girl had ridden ToT with her mother but when she saw DBf she said to her father "I was a brave girl but the man next to me screamed like a little girl."

It is still (Though DB and I broke up but are still besties) my favorite memory of the World for that trip!
:rotfl2:

I was 7 or 8, and we were staying at Ft Wilderness. We were sitting at the Settlement Depot waiting for a bus back to our campsite.

I guess this guy had to have been in his mid 30's - early 40's. I assume that he was coming from River Country. He was in nothing but a lime green speedo...no towel, nothing. He even left a wet butt print on one of the benches. I still have his image burned into my memory.

Over Spring Break I was at Pop waiting for the bus to Epcot and some guy with his family was in line ahead of me and every time a bus would start to enter the resort he'd say really loudly, "here comes the busssssss! The busssssss! The busssss! The busssssss!" So embarrassing! If I were his kid, I would have been hiding.

One more "short story."

On the first trip to WDW with the kids the youngest was four. DD4 was, and still, is very attached to her mother. DD4 was all but physically attached to her Disney Mom(DM) all through the trip. :)

One day DM was wearing Khaki shorts. DD4 was just tall enough to be looking at DM's shorts all day long. :) One day we were getting on the train at MK at Frontier Land to ride to the front of the park. The waiting area for the train was packed with people and as the train pulled into the station, more people were walking into the waiting area. As more people packed in, we moved around a bit, and DD4 moved from my right side to my left. I looked down to check on her and she was hugging and rubbing a leg that disappeared into Khaki shorts. As I watched DD4 rub the leg, DD4's hands slipped UNDER the bottom of the shorts and moved up the leg! :scared1:

Of course this leg going into Khaki shorts was not DD4's mother. :scared1::rotfl2:

The poor lady being groped and rubbed by DD4 had this look of surprise, anger, and I AM GOING TO HIT SOMEONE. :scared1::laughing: She looked down and saw this cute little girl, aka DD4, who looked up and saw she was hugging a strangers leg. :rolleyes1:lmao: DD4 was shocked. The groped lady smiled.

I just burst out laughing and apologized while we all got a good chuckle.

We will never forget that lady at the train station. I wonder if she remembers DD4? :rotfl2:

Later,
Dan

I bet she does. I have memories of looking down to have a small little one clinging to my leg at It's a Small World. Apparently she was upset with her father and ran to her "mother" uhhhh me...We were all laughing so hard, well everyone except the little girl (she was mortified) because she scared herself so bad when she realized I wasn't her mother she went running straight back to daddy even though she was clearly very upset with him 2 seconds earlier. It's a fun memory.

I'll bet she does remember!
I still remember last year when we were watching the Holiday storyteller in France, and a little girl wrapped her arms around my whole body and kept banging her head into me. :lmao: Her entire family- parents, aunts, uncles- tried to pry her off of me, but she had a tight grip! Haha they were mortified, but I just laughed and said not to worry about it.

Coincidentally, one of my very first WDW memories is when I did the same thing to a stranger at an early age. I grabbed a strangers hand, thinking it was my dad. It was back in the days of the spiral "leashes" that attached from parent to child with a Velcro bracelet on each wrist, so I wasn't very far from my parents.

I couldn't have been more than 3- but I remember it so vividly!

(by the way... just to stir things up a bit lol... yes my parents had me on a
leash, but I turned out ok :thumbsup2 )

I have a great fear of heights..and motion sickness also. I decided (against my better judgement) that I could go on Soarin'. We get into our seats just as a little boy (about 3 years old) starts screaming in fear; he was sitting two seats down from me. I realize at this point that I can't do this ride and get up from the seat to leave..having informed a CM that I was getting off. The father of the sobbing child asks me -a complete stranger- to take the little boy with me; he tells me where his wife is waiting and off we go. The child was very trusting, held my hand the whole way, and pointed his mom out as soon as he saw her. My issue is, however, with the dad who just handed the kid off to me like he'd known me all his life.
I hope his wife read him the riot act when he got off the ride..I sure would have!!
