strangers getting too close to my baby (long vent)

I never mind anyone looking at or cooing at my little one's. I don't see the big deal.

I agree, if you're sick stay away. Otherwise, babies are there to be loved.

In most foreign countries, children are to be loved and celebrated by all. Hugs  , kisses :love2: , face touching.......it's all a part of life here in Italy. :goodvibes

That's kind of what I figured. :)

My son is a big old 13 year old and, frankly, people either ignore or avoid him. I very much miss the days when he was a cutie pie that everybody oooogled over. I really miss it.....sigh.

be lucky you don't have TWINS! They are like tourist attractions. Once, when in Myrtle Beach, a woman actually RAN FULL SPEED about 50 yards to reach us just to look at them. Quite a strange, and uncomfortable moment, to be sure.

After my kids were quite grown I used to touch babies' hands. When I realized that they put their hands in their mouths (not very swift am I) I stopped. It's a stupid thing to do and people should be made aware of it.

The ABSOLUTE weirdest thing that happened to me when my DD was a baby was one of my old roomies from college came to visit. She is a total granola head. Anyway, she wanted to breast feed my 2 week old baby! NO KIDDING!! Her 4 yo was still breastfeeding, in fact he pulled up her shirt at the dinner table and whipped out her breast and started going for it. My husband threw down his napkin and left the table. She has never been invited back to my home since and my DD is now 11.

Cindyluwho,

That is weird! What did you say to her when she wanted to breastfeed your baby?

She was actually reaching for her when she told me she wanted to breastfeed her. I just told her that it would make me uncomfortable. What I wanted to say is "You want to breastfeed my baby!?! Are you nuts? You slept with every guy in college and you want to what?" But I restrained my myself :rotfl:

What you should have said was "You better save your reserve for that kid of yours. 4 year olds can really work up a thirst after riding their tricycle all afternoon."

It never bothered me. Both of my babies were really cute and it made me feel good that they could bring a smile to people's faces. :goodvibes

One thing about babies -- they don't judge people based on physical appearances, the kind of car you drive, or the type of job you have. So, it's nice getting a smile from a human being once in a while, even if it is an infant.

ITA! I Love the fact that my little one brings a smile to people's face. Yesterday at BJ's the little old lady grabbed onto my cart to see the little peanut. All her hair makes people stop and comment all the time. The only thing I can't stand is when they call her a "he"!! She looks just like a girl!!!

Just curious, but is this your first child? ;) I remember feeling that same worry with my oldest child. Then we had DS . DD was in preschool and there were all these little kids around with germs. I tried to keep him away from it, It was impossible to shield it all. At that point, I just threw in the towel. Doctor advised, try to keep him away from sick people=- emphasis on try. Then there was my DB. He had four kids, and my DD was over at his house and took a tumble down his flight of stairs. I quickly ran to the stairs all full of worry and concern for DD, and my DB's comment was, "Don't worry, they (kids) bounce." :faint: I guess by the fourth one, DB was numb to a certain amount of kid worry.

Anyway, hang in there :grouphug:. They do get through this stage in one piece despite all the people around. Also, maybe that elderly person just had an ailment, like a bad hip or something that wasn't contagious? :confused3

About people touching your pregnant belly. When I was pregnant 34 years ago, my mom's friends would always touch my belly. My mom was Italian and she told me that when they touch your belly, they are giving the baby a blessing. So it was kind of nice.
