IT seems like there are always people in the red shirts/blue pants on your way out that want to ask you a few questions and see if they can e-mail you a survey. Every once in a while I get stopped and have always been happy to answer their questions.

Well tonight on my way out of DL and I was stopped right near the Guided Tour office and asked if I would answer a few questions. I said sure.

The lady then asked if dd or I had purchased any food items ranging from snacks to a full sit down meal. I tell sure we got some snacks today.

She then asks if I would be willing to take part in a three minute survey. She I said, figuring I would give her my e-mail and be on my way.

Well she rattles off some prerehearsed paragraph that I can barely understand and then asks dd and I to follow her over to the guided tour office.

She motions for us to sit on the bench out side the door. So we sit. Then another surveyor (sp?) comes out of the door and locks it and tells her to lock it behind me. Okay odd I thought... but it got a little werider.

She motions for me to get up and follow her into the locked office but wants me to leave dd alone on the bench outside with a locked dorr between us.

I asked if dd could come inside with me and the lady said no - is that a problem. I said yes that I would not be able to participate if my dd could not come in with me.

I am not going to leave my dd, who is 9 but very small for her age, sitting on a bench alone in the dark at DL as thousands of people walk past on the way out with a locked door between us so I could answer a three minute survey about an ice cream cone I bought earlier in the day.

The lady siad I had to be alone and I told her then I could not help.

Very strange that anyone at DL would encourage a parent to leave their child sitting alone. :confused3

Not really sure what that was about.

Hm, someone on another board was surveyed too. I know I got caught in June 2008 for a computerized dining survey for Epcot but there was no locked door involved, and since my companion was old enough to buy beer, it wasn't an issue to be separated for a couple minutes. ;)

My 2008 survey at Epcot was along the lines of, where did you eat, how did you like your food, what's your impression of food at Epcot, was it a good value, etc. I'm assuming they'd do similar surveys for Disneyland to try to figure out people's impressions of food.

Less than good planning on their part to try to put a locked door between parent and child!

Wow, that is really weird indeed. I am usually approached by those people near the gates, but always decline. You were definitely in the right - I'd never leave my kid outside alone in the dark, even at Disneyland!

That sounded very weird. I would never of left my daughter alone at that age, heck I might not even now and she's 16 because it would be weird for someone to ask me to. You may want to call someone at DLR and tell them that it was an uncomfortable situation.

Very odd!!! I, personally would contact Disney to see what that was about - but that's just me. Very curious to know what that was all about. ???

That is weird. You would think they would realize people aren't going to want to leave their kids by themselves like that.

I did a survey at DCA once where i had to go into an office and do the survey on a computer. I don't think they locked the door and since DH was with DS it wasn't a problem to leave them outside. I've also done the short survey where they take your e-mail address to send you another survey and i've done the "long" survey standing out in the open - not in an office. It's interesting how they have different methods. Usually they want to ask me the questions but last week they kept wanting to ask DH so I guess they were targeting men in their 30s that day.

I was caught for 6 surverys during our stay last year. From "What's your favorite ride?" to DTD stuff. I must have done everything Disney currently has on their portfolio  Everything was outside though.

I've done the surveys too just never where I had to leave dd. We normally go just the two of us and it is clear as we walk around that there are just the two of us.

I just thought the whole thing was odd. Don't mind doing surveys but I am not going to leave my dd alone to do it.

I've done the surveys they have on the computers before, but how odd that they epected you to leave your DD alone.

I am thinking that the locked door was for your and daughter's protection as it was dark out. They probably do things differently during the day... I agree I would not want to leave my child alone even if they are "safe" behind locked doors you want DL to be a fun and positive experience not a scary one....:sad2:

Just wanted to clarify- they wanted her to sit outside of the building on a park bench while I was inside. No way was I going to leave her outside unattended where I could not see her.

It sounds like a training issue. The CM was probably instructed to have people complete the survey privately, rather than having a whole group deciding the answers. I would guess that the CM in question was probably a new hire, poorly trained, and didn't have the wits to understand that it would still be a "private" survey, even if a small child was present.

That is very bizarre. I can't imagine Disney asking you to leave your child. I agree that something was not communicated correctly.

I was there this last week and asked to participate in the survey too. They were VERY clear with me before I agreed to do the survey or before I walked anywhere with them that I would need to be alone to do it and my child could not join me. I told them I couldn't help them then.
Sounds like the person was badly trained in how to invite someone to the computer room to complete the survey.

My husband took this same survey in February.

The OP is right. We were not allowed inside while he took the survey...we were asked to sit outside on the bench while he went inside.

It would be awkward for a child to outside alone and I would have just politely declined to participate.

Whew.. at least I am not the only one that has expereinced this. :rotfl2: I thought maybe I might have lost it or something.

When the lady rattled off her pre-rehearsed saying she was not clear nor was she easy to understand.

I think it would make more sense for the people to ask someone from a larger group rather than a mom/kid only combo.

I think the pps were right in that she was not properly trained.
