Strange Question about Dining Number

I am curious, although it's not a big deal either way. Does Disney have people answering the phone for WDW-DINE from their homes?

The other day, I heard a train whistle while I was talking on the telephone and trying to make some ADR's. I asked the CM if it was the Disney train (ha! ha!) and he said, "No, it's just a train outside."

Tonight, I heard a baby crying (and cooing) in the background. The CM was very nice, and I didn't want to put her on the spot and ask about the baby. At one point, the crying was pretty loud. So I just hurried off the phone. It was a couple minutes after 10 p.m. anyway, and I really had the feeling that she might need to go tend to that baby.

In the past, the most I have ever heard in the background was other CM's talking to future guests. This new development seems unusual.

I wonder if Disney would hire me to "man" their phones and take dining reservations for a few hours every evening. If I could do the job from my home, that would be pretty cool. :rotfl2:

Yes, they do have people who work from "home" answering the phones for WDW dine. I've encountered "house noises" too on the phone. I've read about the telecommuting CM's online before.

1) Yes, people do answer phnes or Disney at their home.
2) They get paid by the phone call.
3) They can average $8-$10 per hour as an independent contractor.
4) They get 20¢ per call.
5) They are rated on how many calls they answer per hour.
6) If their rating is too low, they are not used further.
7) Thus,
. . . long calls affect their income and their job future
. . . your call could be cut short if you take too long
. . . your call could be cut short if you are trying to make too many ressies
. . . your call could be cut short if you ask too many questions

I was wondering the same thing. I thought that maybe they were answering from home because it was so quiet. Usually at a call center you can hear the other people in the back.

I would not want that job. You couldn't really come back on these boards with all the complaints on here about dining reservation Cast Members and how a poster couldn't do this or that.

And, as Rusty Scupper pointed out, sounds like a dog eat dog world for them. Plus, I don't think you get to choose your hours. I would think there would be a need for tons of people to be on the phones at 7:00 AM Eastern time when the phone lines open up. And as one poster mentioned in another post, she's going to be up bright and early on Sunday to get all of her dining reservations because that's when the next window opens.

No thanks, it sounds good to be working from home but there are a lot of other things to think about.
