Strange experience with AKL Mousekeeper

I am SURE it is against WDW policy for Mousekeeping to have ANYONE in the room with them while they are WORKING..unless its official business (maintenence, etc)! Regardless of who they are or where they work.

On first thought, I would have not reported it...but then thinking about it, AND since it had happen before to other people...YES I would have said something to management.

You are paying for this room, and one of the services provided is to have it cleaned daily. NO ONE ELSE besides who you invite are allowed in it, unless there is a emergancy situation. This was a invasion of your privacy. Altough it was minimal, and yes probably a innocent occurance...it was still a invasion of you & your families privacy.

Go with your guts, if you felt as though it was ODD...then it WAS!

That would have freaked me out! My mind would have immediately wandered and I would just know they were living out a fantasy and enjoying a little afternoon delight in my room. Sick I know, but because I know myself so well I can tell you for sure exactly where my mind would have gone.

OH could you just imagine your endless nightmares had you walked in and they were in the middle of their "afternoon delight?" :scared1: :crazy2:

Hey, if it was The Motel 6 that's one thing, but not what you expect from AKL.

Even though it was probably a bit weird at first, it is certainly not worth getting the mousekeeper in trouble over. I find people are too quick to complain about things and don't put themselves in other people's shoes.

Her husband did work in the resort and as you stated she was a good mousekeeper so I don't think she deserves a complaint that would end up with her getting written up.

Oh no, this is so unprofessional!

I look at it this way...how would you feel if you walked in the door and the mousekeeper...in regular dress, without cleaning materials were sitting down at the table in your room? It's really the same thing...just b/c he was "Supervised" doesn't make it okay when he doesn't have business there. Whether the man actually worked there or not (the veracity of which can't be proven one way or the other), if you don't have official business, my given or implied consent (i.e. housekeeping), you do NOT belong there.

Frankly, consider this: have you ever gone with your spouse to their work on the weekend/evening while they finished something / picked something up? Generally, while one waits, they will get bored and start looking around. If this gent was waiting around for his wife to finish, who's to say he didn't decide to "have a look around" as well? GAH! :faint:

I wouldn't have turned her in b/c I would hate to get someone fired over what is clearly just a lapse in judgement. However, I would be tempted to call AKL up and say "look, I don't want to get anyone in trouble, so I'm not going to tell you my name (ie. so they can't look up your reservation and find your mousekeeper), but I visited during this time and this happened. I suggest you speak to your staff." You could also share the other incident you've read about with the other poster. It may not make a dent, but it can't hurt.

I would be VERY uncomfortable to find somone in my room. Although I wouldn't want to cause trouble for anyone, I would have to say something to someone.

It would bother me for the rest of my visit. Not constantly, but always there. Really, it would creep me out.

I wouldn't think it odd since he did work for the resort too. He was just waiting for his wife to be finished. Had he not worked there then that would be odd. What would you tell the manager two employees were in the room?
I would have said something to the resort manager. Even if the husband worked at Disney/AKL, he had no business being in your room, unless there was some maintenance or work order he was completing.

I would have to agree with stemikger. Even though it is probably against policy I would not have thought to report it. I gather from the OP this was a good mousekeeper and with all the complaints you read about the bad ones, do we will want to lose a good one.

First off, I would like to say that we had a wonderful time at AKL. The room was perfect, the CMS were friendly, the food was spectacular. I did have a strange experience with a Mousekeeper though. What would you have done if this happened to you?

We had the same Mousekeeper for 5 days straight. I know this because we spent a lot of time in the room watching the animals and changing for swim breaks. During these times, I saw her and spoke to her. She was a very friendly lady. On the 5th day, I came to the room alone to grab the refillable mugs since we were going to eat lunch at Mara. She was cleaning the room. No problem there. However, there was a man sitting at our table smiling at me. I said hello. I thought maybe he was a supervisor watching her to see how well she cleaned the rooms. :confused3

I was wrong. The Mousekeeper then introduces him to me as her husband. She said they were going to eat after she was finished with the rooms. He told me that he worked for AKL too in another department. They were nice people. However, I thought this was just a bit weird that she had her husband in our hotel room. Nothing was missing or out of sorts. I was debating on telling the manager, but my wife insisted that I should not. She liked the Mousekeeper and didn't want to get her in trouble if she was doing something that was not allowed.

So, did I do the right thing by not saying anything?

Well, this not bat at all!

DH and I work for a hotel, he's de engineer manager and me the FD manager, but i was the housekeeping superv. and then manager before, and we use to go visit each other before lunch time, and other people do the same thing, if her husband is not an employee and is the hotel with her, that is a different situation.

He should hang out with her in a stay over room, vacant room is OK.

You're right he has no business in stay over room, unless he was doing some work, but he can get fired for that, and this is very ussual with relatives working in the same propety.

Hotel employees are responsible to know the rules of when they should and should not be in a guest's room. This individual had no business being there. It would be unfortunate if he lost his job, but if it were me, I wouldn't hesitate to report the incident -- usual with relatives working at the hotel or not. There are other places where those individuals can wait other than the guest room I am occupying.

I walked in on mousekeeping *cart out side, I think the door was propped open with the deadbolt*...just to find that he was a man. I was a little suprised, but then saw him on the rest of our floor throughout the week. Nothing against men or male mousekeepers, just was planning on seeing a woman when I opened our door!!! :cool1:

Why didn't her husband wait in the lobby ? Poor judgement on the housekeeper and her husband. I would complain, too many strange people around.

The man was sitting at the table in your room, he introduced himself, he explained his reason for being there. I do not see a reason to be overly concerned about this incident.

What about personal privacy. I think it was totally inappropriate. The only thing that lessens it so in my mind is that a bond was made with the mousekeeper - so perhaps she felt that you were good folks who wouldn't mind if she broke the rules a bit and let her dh stay in the room with her.

This weirds me out and would not be acceptable period.
No one should be in my room unless they are doing their job at that time.
I don't care how nice he or she was...

I agree with the poster who suggested telling the resort about it without naming names. Then they can be aware of what's going on without anyone getting fired.

Personally, it probably wouldn't have upset me but I can totally understand why it would upset other people.

Interesting thread. I don't think this would have concerned me at all. They are highly unlikely to have been 'indulging' in anything inappropriate given (a) that she knew you were often around the resort during the day and (b) surely they would choose an unoccupied room such activities? And I'm not sure why two people are more likely to steal or disturb your possessions than one. But I guess it would be frowned upon by management and if you felt uncomfortable then you should go with your gut feeling.

I would definitely let the management at AKL know about this situation. Even though you are now back at home. You would not even have to give the particulars of which room & when you stayed. Management can't deal with the issue if they don't know it exists. Perhaps the mousekeepers & other staff could use a refresher on the rules.

I would be parinoid the rest of my trip - checking my stuff all the time. I travel with my laptop because I download my digital pictures at night. I might have asked for a different room.

Could it be possible that she liked you and wanted you to meet her husband? You said you saw each other everyday. Maybe since you were somewhat friendly with each other, she thought it would be OK. It is a strange situaton. Since she did a good job and nothing was missing or moved around in your room, I would probably let it go.

I'm just wondering why is it that since he is in the room it makes you more paranoid. Chances are that some, and I mean only a small amount of housekeepers do take those types of jobs just to steal things. Also one more thing how many times do you here people take about how they are using the DIS boards while at work. I'm pretty sure that most companies dont like that.
