Strange experience with AKL Mousekeeper

As a guest at a resort, whether it is the all stars of the GF, there are certain standards to be met. NO ONE should be in your room without a clear purpose and as part of their job family. Certain jobs are bonded and some aren't. If your mousekeeper is bonded and she lets guests in that aren't, she is leaving the resort wide open to legal issues.

It is not your responsibility to get someone fired. But that is not what we are really discussing here. You encountered a situation that made you very uncomfortable and you had (and have) every right to speak to a supervisor. If there are repercussions to the staff member involved, that is not your concern or responsibility. The mousekeeper knows the rules (Disney is quite clear regarding expectations) and if they choose to vio;ate the rules, then they choose the consequences.

Where you are employed, you are aware of company rules. If you knowingly violate the rules, you know what will happen. You may get a warning, or be put on notice, or let go depending o nthe severity. As Dr. Phil says, you choose the behavior you choose the consequences.

I can understand that she would have felt comfortable in the rooms. She likely felt that they were "her" rooms. So she felt comfortable with her husband there. But he should not have been there, even so. I think that I would have spoken to her in a private conversation, not with her husband there, and told her that I really didn't feel comfortable with other people in the room. Especially since you had established a relationship with her.

I can only imagine how shocked you must have been. I can't imagine walking into my hotel room and finding someone who had no business being there.
I have to whole-heartedly agree with those who have posted that you should contact the resort now. Will the Mousekeeper get fired? Probably not, but if she does it is not your fault. She knowingly broke company policy. No one should have been allowed into your room without your permission. The fact that they were not uncomfortable doesn't matter, the fact that YOU were uncomfortable does. The next people that walk in on them might not be so understanding.

We just got back from AKl and if this would have happened to us, my husband would have flipped out. I would have been wierded out but probably wouldn't report it, because I don't like to get people in trouble. On this trip, we rode in the driver area of the monorail, and all our driver did was talk about how she hated her coworkers and if they didn't stop annoying her, she would just go home...it made for a slightly uncomfortable ride, but I didn't report it ( don't we all hate our co workers? ;) ) We had great trip, otherwise, but like you I would ave been wierded out.

Did you say, ok, lady, just keep both hands on the steering wheel and take a deep breath! It's a good thing the monorails can't jump the tracks... :p

Luckily for us, she was very nice and was just having a bad day....we didn't get the monorail death ride! :rotfl2:

This thread is another reason why we like DVC so much more than the regular hotel rooms in Disney-I find great comfort in the fact that a stranger's not coming into my room every day-it makes it feel more like 'my' place!

Most of the time DH & I put a "Do Not Disturb" sign on our door before we leave. We ask for towels and such when we see housekeeping in the hallway. I keep our room pretty tidy. It only takes a minute and I'd rather do it myself. Pretty much for the same reason as you. :goodvibes

And keeping it tidy helps me keep up with our stuff. :)

as a child of a mother that has cleaned hotel rooms,,, I dont think it would be strange at all. She was a single parent, and sometimes we had to go with her. I would not have made anything of this at all. Good jobs are hard to come by and she was probably doing exactly as he stated

Anyone who has been on these boards for a few years notice a trend? Once a year or so, this exact situation pops up regarding this same resort. Maybe it is the same Mousekeeper?

As for our two cents...Dh would have flipped his lid.

I have to add my opinion to this. If I were the OP, I would have been very angry to see the mousekeepers husband or anyone else sitting at the table in our room waiting for her to finish, or just visiting her or whatever. No one can enter a paying guests room without permission, which mousekeepers and certain CM and maintenance people have. And I'd be willing to bet that this man did NOT have permission from a higher up at AKL. He had no business being in the OPs room. That room is not a hang-out or a waiting area. I wouold have reported it immediately, because I would have felt it a violation of my privacy. I EXPECT certain people to enter my room when I'm not there, not every Tom, Dick, and Harry a mousekeeper chooses to let hang out there for whatever reason. I would report her, ask for a different mousekeeper, and not feel sorry for her, since she brought this on herself. I'm SURE she was told the rules when she was hired, and she CHOSE NOT to abide by a very important rule. This makes me so mad! How would you feel if you walked into your room and found the mousekeeper sitting at your table having a cup of coffee, by herself? Even by herself, she's limited in how comfortable she can get in a room. She's supposed to cleasn it and get out, respecting the privacy of the paying guest.
I hope you notify AKL about this. I have stayed there, and am planning another stay there. I would not want this mousekeeping behaviour to become a common occurrance. Who knows, it may happen all the time without AKL knowing, so they must be imformed so that it can be stopped.

And if any mousekeepers are reading this: I'm going to be polite and friendly to you, I'm going to thank you for keeping my room neat, and I'm going to give you a nice tip. But please do not bring anyone into the room I paid for. It is NOT YOUR room. :sad2:

After reading this thread, this is the first post that makes any sense. I would have reported this immediately!
