Strange experience with AKL Mousekeeper

The only person that should be in my room is the mousekeeper. It is her job to be in my room, otherwise, no one should be allowed in the room. I don't want a total stranger in my room whether he works there or not. If he was a maintenance and my room needs some working fine, otherwise, he should not be there.

If he was actually working that day wouldn't he have had on a uniform or at the very least a nametag? It must have been his day off. I would have felt the same way, a little strange but I wouldn't have said anything either. I guess it was nice they were having lunch and it probably made sense to them for him to wait there for her. I'll bet it was against the rules however.

Some roles don't wear nametags, such as the people who work for I.D.E.A.S, or at the Credit Union. But all WDW cast who are not in costume (except for characters, the nametag is a part of the costume, and you aren't allowed onstage without one, even if yours is lost or borken, you borrow one!) have to display their company ID.

I agree 100% ::MinnieMo

I didn't see any ID or nametag on him. They could have been lying about him working there for all I know. They just seemed like nice people so we let it go. I was pretty dumbfounded when I saw him sitting there, otherwise I would have asked some questions. It was just very strange.

These are your options since you have left the resort.

First of all, he should not have been in the room, period. No question about that unless he was maintenance and you had reported a problem. Regardless of whether he works there ore not.

Now if you report this, she will definitely get in trouble, possibly lose her job. As someone stated she let an unathorized guest of hers into a room. This is not good.

If you feel it needs reporting contact the resort and let them know. If not let it go.

The only thing is if you had not gone back to the room you would have never known. Not sure if that is a good thing or not.

this is an excellent post

I think the OP felt uncomfortable. And her feelings were just. I would not be happy, especially if it was just DD and I, to find a man sitting in our room.

Maybe I'm just ultra cautious, being from NY, but I would not have even entered the room with a strange man in it. That would be too risky for me. :sunny:

No way would I have been comfortable with a mousekeeper having a "guest" in my room while she was supposed to be cleaning, husband or not! It's totally inappropriate, and they were out of line. He certainly could've found somewhere more appropriate to wait for her to get off work...he wouldn't need to follow her from room to room!

My dh, who works in private security investigation, says he'd report something like this immediately (whereas I'd be unnerved but probably not do anything about it 'cuz I hate confrontation).

On the 5th day, I came to the room alone to grab the refillable mugs since we were going to eat lunch at Mara. She was cleaning the room. No problem there. However, there was a man sitting at our table smiling at me. I said hello. I thought maybe he was a supervisor watching her to see how well she cleaned the rooms. :confused3

I was wrong. The Mousekeeper then introduces him to me as her husband. She said they were going to eat after she was finished with the rooms. He told me that he worked for AKL too in another department. They were nice people. However, I thought this was just a bit weird that she had her husband in our hotel room. Nothing was missing or out of sorts. I was debating on telling the manager, but my wife insisted that I should not. She liked the Mousekeeper and didn't want to get her in trouble if she was doing something that was not allowed.

So, did I do the right thing by not saying anything?

This EXACT SAME THING happened to us at the AKL!!! I think it was almost 2 years ago, though. Same exact scenario---housekeeper working, man (also an AKL employee) sitting at the table. In our case, the man practically JUMPED out of his skin when we walked in--he knew he had been "caught"!! The housekeeper said it was her husband! I was shocked beyond belief and even posted on this board about it!

I didn't report it because actually, I thought it was kind of sweet that he was taking a break and spending time with his wife! I am sure the two of them have to work long hours just to make ends meet, so I wasn't about to endanger their livelihood (sp?) by reporting them. I did wonder if they had "used" the beds, though!! :scared1: I wonder if it was the same two people that were in your room????

*I would have said he was my husband too* ;)

All kidding aside, I would not like it at all for another person, employee or not, to be in my room with the mousekeeper. I feel the OP was legitimately concerned and I appreciate the the OP letting us know. Like someone else here mentioned, if you are a female traveling alone or traveling with children, you need to feel a level of safety while in your room. And like someone else said, other meeting places are available, all would be better than a guests room.

That is just amazing. I hope you don't mind, but I looked up your post to see how our experiences compared and your experience was 3 years ago. My "visitor" didn't seem the least bit worried so if it is them, they certainly have gotten braver over the years. Here is your thread:

Duck/Fish-just curious, was the door left open or was it closed?

The door was closed, but the cart was outside the room so I figured housekeeping was in there. When I read CanBeGrumpy's thread, I see her door was closed when this happened too. It just gets stranger and stranger.

I don't mind at all that you found that thread! I was going to look it up but I didn't think the history went back that far. Wow, it has been 3 years!!! Shows you what a warped sense of time I have since I thought it had only been 2 years! I think it is so weird that the same thing happened to you, and at the same resort! What are the odds that it could actually be the same couple??

If the door was closed and not propped open with the safety latch or the cart I would definitely report it. Housekeeping for their own safety and the security of the rooms are not suppose to close the door behind them.

If nothing else contact the AKL and ask if this is standard procedure.

after reading that this has happened multiple times i would call akl and let them know

did the other poster inform akl?

Do the maids usually close the door while they are cleaning? Any place I've ever stayed, the doors were propped open while they were cleaning. I don't think it would of botherd me too much if the door had been open, but that would of weirded me out. I'm for reporting it. Especially after hearing the second story from 3 years ago! Maybe it's not against policy and nothing will happen to them, but AKL should know about it.

Yeah, there's just something "off" about the door being closed, and someone else being in the room with the Mousekeeping person. Also, I'm sure they didn't whip out their marriage license - so how does anyone know that this was her husband? It stinks to have to be so cautious about others, but in this day & age - anything is possible. I definitely see it as not only inappropriate, but a security issue.

That would have freaked me out! My mind would have immediately wandered and I would just know they were living out a fantasy and enjoying a little afternoon delight in my room. Sick I know, but because I know myself so well I can tell you for sure exactly where my mind would have gone.
