Strange experience with AKL Mousekeeper

First off, I would like to say that we had a wonderful time at AKL. The room was perfect, the CMS were friendly, the food was spectacular. I did have a strange experience with a Mousekeeper though. What would you have done if this happened to you?

We had the same Mousekeeper for 5 days straight. I know this because we spent a lot of time in the room watching the animals and changing for swim breaks. During these times, I saw her and spoke to her. She was a very friendly lady. On the 5th day, I came to the room alone to grab the refillable mugs since we were going to eat lunch at Mara. She was cleaning the room. No problem there. However, there was a man sitting at our table smiling at me. I said hello. I thought maybe he was a supervisor watching her to see how well she cleaned the rooms. :confused3

I was wrong. The Mousekeeper then introduces him to me as her husband. She said they were going to eat after she was finished with the rooms. He told me that he worked for AKL too in another department. They were nice people. However, I thought this was just a bit weird that she had her husband in our hotel room. Nothing was missing or out of sorts. I was debating on telling the manager, but my wife insisted that I should not. She liked the Mousekeeper and didn't want to get her in trouble if she was doing something that was not allowed.

So, did I do the right thing by not saying anything?

Hmmm...thats kind of iffy. Since he also works at AKL, possibly in maintenance where he has access to guest rooms anyway. He should have probably not made himself so at home in your room and if he worked for Radio Shack down at the local mall, I would definitely had said something, but...
Again, hard call.

Gee, that does seem strange. I guess I would have responded the same way. If there had been something missing or strange I would have called the manager but if everything seemed fine I would have let it go also.

That being said...It seems to me that must be against the rules. It seems like an invasion of your privacy. Sorry it happened.

I wouldn't think it odd since he did work for the resort too. He was just waiting for his wife to be finished. Had he not worked there then that would be odd. What would you tell the manager two employees were in the room?

Wow, I would have been rattled also, but my reaction would have been the same, uneasy, but is it worth saying something? I wonder is a CM or someone who knows could tell us if this is indeed against the rules?

I agree with you. I don't see this as an issue at all.

Yeah. I was debating all of this in my head. I was just taken aback by this gentleman sitting at our table. I didn't bother to ask what department he worked in, but let's just say he worked at the Gift Shop. Should he be in the rooms? I've walked in on Mousekeepers working before, but I've never seen someone making themselves comfortable in my hotel room.

Mousekeeper took a GUEST, into your room. PERIOD.

Regardless of where that GUEST works, he was obviously not working at that time.

I would have let management know that I dont feel that mousekeepers should be recieving GUESTS in my room. If management feels that it is a non issue, that is their call aslong as it never happens in my room again.

Had you known this was the type of thing that would occur at AKL would you still want to stay/feel comfortable staying there? :confused3

Yes. That's not something worth trying to get your housekeeper in trouble over. ::yes:: I wouldn't have cared.

I will probably go back. We really like this hotel. However, I was much more aware of what was left out in plain sight in the room for the last 2 days. I guess it could happen anywhere.

Well, I think it was very wrong to have another person in the room. It doesn't matter if he works there or not. I'm sure the employees allowed to be in rooms is very limited other than the housekeepers. I probably wouldn't have said anything to management but I would have asked her not to bring anyone in to my room again.

He should have been in the cast break room or another approved backstage area. If he was in costume, he shouldn't have been onstage during his break period. If he wasn't in costume he had no business in a guest room.

I would have reported it. I am sure it is against hotel rules to have guests waiting in the room while you finish your work. He could have waited in the lobby.

::yes:: I'm sure that is probably a very serious violation. Bringing others in the room is not acceptable. It doesn't matter who it is.

He wasn't in any uniform/costume but he had on nice slacks and a polo shirt, which is why I thought he might be a supervisor at first.

Why get a mousekeeper in trouble over it? It sounds like they were open about who he was and who knows what kind of discipline or problems they both would have had if you had reported it.

I would not have liked him being in my room. That would have made me very uncomfortable. I don't care if he was an employee or not, he did not have permission to be inside your room. That being said I don't know if I would have said anything or not but it would have made me very aware of my belongings that were left out in the open.

Hmmm.....I don't think it would bother me if he worked for AKL as well. I would likely have just had a chat with him and introduced my son to him.

Although, did you acutally have any way of knowing that he really did work there? I tend to trust everyone and always think the best of people but sometimes that backfires. I think I would just go with my gut, whatever feeling I got about it.

There's always something new on the disboards! :)

All WDW cast who do not wear a costume to work must display their company ID visibly at all times while on property and working. And again, if he wasn't on the clock, he was most definitely in violation of company policy to be in your room.
