Very strange as I commented to my wife yesterday that I could not believe they could keep the park running so consistently without problems! Someone else already posted that there main computer which meant that we could not buy anything (snacks, store items, etc...) Also, we had to wait after leaving for dinner to get back into MK since the computer were down and they were not letting people in.

In the morning I went to Space Mountain and it was broke. My wife and I were in line for Jungle Cruise and it broke... then we went to ride Pirate's and it was down for over 1 hour. Finally, we went to see the final Jack Sparrow performance outside of Pirate's and they told us the final show for the day was cancelled and they did not know why.

Oh well, we still had a great time! The biggest pain was not being able to get a snack or drink with the dining plan during the heat of the day! My pregnant wife was a little crabby! :) (I did not have cash on me since we use the card for everything!)

Every day in the park is amazing regardless if there are problems... We've just never experienced so many during one day!

From the sounds of things to us outside the parks it's been insane over there. Reservations was down period - nothing could be done, no ADR's, no vacations booked, no nothing. I called a CM at CRO to ask a general question that did not need the computers, and they were BELLOWING in the background at the top of their lungs. Some people who called were being told that power was out at the entire MK, even, so it sounds like no one knew what was going on.

What could have caused such a massive loss of power? Just seems odd to me that the computer system does not have backups in place..... :confused3

Very frustrating, I'm sure. But as you said, every day in the park is amazing regardless ...

You're Good!

You have already predicted what has happened today! ;)

Sorry couldn't resist!

Computers are only as good as their operators! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Ah, the problems of hiring people who don't know English and math.

Otherwise they could still serve people their meals (manually)

Or do the hirees not know home economics (for cooking the food) either, when the computerized Fryolator (tm) (sp?) won't work?

Something tells me the "Fryolator" is not connected to the "Central Computer". :)

This is starting to sound like the "Y2K Crash" scam that was perpetrated by computer illiterates (phobics) and exacerbated by computer IT wizards ($$).

At any rate, I'll bet that in a little while, Disney's computer system will be reevaluated and redesigned into separate independent nodes. ;)

The problem yesterday is the system was down so they probably couldn't tell who was on the dining plan and who wasn't.

Were the restaurants open? Could you purchase food/water using cash? I can't believe that there was no food/water options at all at WDW in August!

We arrived yesterday and when DD19 tried to enter the MK with an 8-day PH, they told her it was not valid. They finally let her in and she could not get FP's with it. We stopped at Guest Relations after leaving MK thinking there was something wrong with her ticket (hers was the only one that we had bought at the DS, our other ones are AP's) and the CM said it was because their computers were down, and she then basically had an extra day on her pass since it was not activated. That is why the FP wouldn't work for her he said. We didn't have any trouble entering the park and didn't see anyone else having trouble either> :confused3

Ah the beauty of the insensitive. What does any of this have to do with computers being down? Cash registers won't open without power. How were they supposed to get money for the bills? Charge the credit cards? You immediately assume that the reason that they could not work was because they were ignorant ( don't know math ), immigrants (don't know English). Computers that don't work stop all of us, even those who know math and English.

Correction, Administrators (humans), not computers, stop ...
There is at least one instance of some stores remaining open without power (San Francisco a few years ago).

A bit prejudice are we?? I happen to have graduated high school with high honors and was ayear ahead in math. I work in a bank and if our computer system goes down I can't do anything to help people no matter how well I know english or math.

If San Francisco were on one large grid, you'd have an argument. As it is with WDW, all the information is on their computer system, with data coming from multiple sources. All your booking info is on this...there IS no hard copy, nor is there any way to access CC data, ticket data, dining data, etc. You cannot have a small store mentality in a system this large, and cannot manually work around something this widespread.

I was at the MK yesterday(Tuesday 8/15) and did not encounter any problems. I made purchases all day yesterday with my credit card and had no problems. Although, when i did enter the park , My AP did not want to work.

Hi :sunny:
If you have read Ridley Pearson's book Kingdom Keepers (juvienelle fiction) you might suspect that Maleficient had something to do with it.... :sunny:

In the book she is trying to mess up the main computer system at the Magic Kingdom.

My DS loved the book. It was laying around so I read it. It won't win a Nobel prize but it was fun.

Is the computer system up today? Have they fixed the problem? We're heading down next week, and I don't want to keep thinking a comp[uter crash will wreck or day! (The OP is way more accepting than DH - he'll have a bird!)
